The end of the Mo

Would you go to bed with this man?Now I don’t have any of last night’s Movember Gala Partae photos avaiable to me yet (There were gold chains and chest hair galore on Rish the mega-sleaze, and I skanked it up in my schoolgirl outfit that I pull together… scary thing for both of us is that all the clothes we were were not costume pieces, rather things that are general parts of our wardrobe. Just not always together), but I can tell you that I was very impressed with the facial hair of Canberra, and the effort everyone put into costumes and for their fundraising for Beyond Blue Depression Initiative and the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

There are some other photos up so far from Adelaide, Brisbane, and even the Canadian Movember Galas here, and the Canberra ones are sure to shortly follow!

I also can’t believe it’s the end of November! t’s December tomorrow! That means- summer! the Christmas tress goes up! I must write my Chrissy cards in earnest! and various other things and thoughts like – Only 3 more weeks of work! (and, seriously, does week ten of term REALLY count? I don’t think so!) I think I’ll do a December First Daily Grind – If I remember to charge my camera battery and to take it everywhere with me :)

Omega 3, here I come!

Just sitting here, checking my email, and snacking away on a salmon and tomato sandwich. Remembering how much I love canned fish such and tuna and salmon, and how I used to live on tuna or salmon sandwhiches as a kid. With the snackfood of a bowl of lettuce with lemon juice for a snack. Those crazy kids!

Speaking of snackery – I just saw an ad for Cadbury “Singles”… 99 delicious calories of chocolate for the rrp of 99 cents! Not being a good one for having “just one” piece, or saving some for later, this is an awesome idea :) (and if you add in the “just one calorie” in diet coke, you have yourself an awfully un-nutritious but stress-easing 100 calorie snack :p)

My back’s all sticky when I removed the waterproof dressing from over my stitches. The stitches look like a little spider has been squashed onto my shoulder… but they’re feeling alright, though I might cover it again tonight… Especially if I colour my hair, wich I’m thinking of again… but really… I don’t know if I can be bothered… the weekend could be better to turn the bathroom purple! :)

Oh, and because I am extremely glad there are only two days remaining of Movember:
He thinks he looks like gomez adams….
If you’re on facebook, there are more wonderful photos of Rish for movember in his Movember Group

That Holiday?

Tha holiday that I’m so desparately needing/wanting? It’s a month away! :)

Boxing Day (Dec 26th) Rish and I are heading to Queenstown, NZ to have the summer NZ trip we’ve wanted, and the celebrate our 10th anniversay :) *dies*

The flights have been booked for awhile now, but we just haven’t gotten around to the accomodation side of things. Browsing now, I see a few places that could be promising – we don’t want to spend too much, but since it is something special don’t exactly want cheap and nasty! :p

We’re staying with friends for a couple of the nights, and then needing to find someplace for new years and the night after, but are also having a few nights to ourselves… for some much-needed r&r…

I’m getting excited just typing about it!

And, relief sets in

The election is over. Obviously the Senate still has to play out. But John Howard is gone, Kevid Rudd’s Labor is in. And now we just have to see how Rudd will actually play out, and see what we really have voted for here.

Bring on the next 3 years!

Votes are Cast

I did my thing at around 9 this morning, toddled off to the primary school down the street, discregarded the “how to vote” cards I was handed, and was pleasantly surprised at there being only 4 names on the House of Representatives ballot paper, which I quickly numbered through, and only 16 below the line for the Senate paper.. so with that one I took my time, mostly just so I didn’t stuff up my numbered, and for the first time did the below the line vote. That way I don’t have to worry that my preferences will flow to some Fred Nile group person (not that I saw them there for the ACT) or to Family First, wh I don’t remember being there either. Maybe they’ve given up on Canberra, and realise that there’s no point standing here as the PPP (politics, pornography and pyrotechnics) have long taken hold and really, we have no “family values” that they speak of left. :) Such a shame. It made figuring out who went last really quite hard.

I bit dissapointed at the attempted “cake stall” at the school. A couple of trays of rocky road… where were the lamingtons and toffee? Why did I even get up this morning?

It’s out my hands now. In about 8 hours I’ll have dragged out the tv (or be camped out in front of it on the bike at the gym) watching the start of the count. It could well be a close one, and that makes me nervous. I’m not really sure that I want Labor and Kevin Rudd in, but I know I don’t want John Howard’s Liberals around anymore. I so hope he loses Bennelong.

We shall see.

edit: Nikkiana was perplexed by our preferential voting system, so I shared for her this how to vote link (sound required). Here’s the how to not vote one, too. I don’t know if it helped her any, but she tells me the Australian male voice is enthralling.

Cut Up

Is it wrong to be excited about getting my first ever stitches? Or that I had to get a mole removed? I guess it can be exciting so long as it comes back clear from pathology, right? :p I got a little one removed from my left shoulder/back this afternoon – just starting to feel it now, though when I got the needle, I could then only feel the little tugs of the stitches as they went in.

A bit of a frustrating afternoon though. I had the appointment for 1pm, so I could just ake a little longer for lunch, but when I got to the doctor’s at ten to, I was then told that actually, my appointment was at 1:30 (the girl last week who wrote it down was apparently not useful enough that she was able to read the time off the computer screen and then write it on a little card for me correctly).. and that, as is usually the case, they were running behind. Perhaps I should go for a walk for about an hour? *sigh* Gave me a chance to browse the bookshop though and the Manuka boutiques and homewares. Saw a $110 box of Christmas Crackers in one shop *faints* They were pretty, but seriously, they’d have better have had some awesome gifties in them!

Had a bit of a sore throat/headachey/ear achey thing, so even though I got myself back to work at 3 (passing the numerous banners and signs along Adelaide Ave near the lodge proclaiming all sorts of things like “Greens = Taxes” and “Don’t vote the Unions in” – yes I’m looking forward to voting for both the Greens and Labor tomorrow!) I hung around for an hour doing some notes and stats, but left soon after… I think a lot of people were also over it… Fridays can be hard!

Canberrans don’t know how to drive when it rains. Itseems that when it rains, that means it really IS time to tailgate, weave in and out of traffic, oh and push well past the posted speed limit. Because it’s still safe, right? *sigh*

*ahem*

In follow-up to saturday night, when discussing my bruises:

Rish says:
until you put your arms in your own vomit…then i used a modified full japanese wrist lock to hold you up

All those years of martial arts training had to be useful for something, right?

Richard Wilkins vs Blueberry Cheesecake

Just back from meeting up with Karen aka Kazza the Blank One for some dessert in Civic. I had originally suggested we head to Cream (good food, coffee, service and hot waitstaff all around), however, when I showed up, there was a large private function, with lots of girls in stiletto heels and mini-dresses, and aside from me not being dressed for the occaision in my Keds and Colorado clothes, I don’t think I’d want to go in! Then there’s a hush as someone steps to the microphone. Yes, indeed, Richard Wilkins has graced little old Canberra with his presence. From what I overhear, it’s a Canberra Centre fashion do, hence the glamours walking in…

So when Karen gets there we head to Cafe Essen instead – and actually get descent (read = fast, with coffee and cake arriving at similar times) service for a change. I am so full right now! (and happy that I have met another person, IRL, even though meeting people can be a completely terrifying experience. I need more nice experiences in order to make it less scary and soo will blossom into the beautiful social butterfly that really only seems to come out after a few glasses of champagne :p)

I so don’t see myself getting up tomorrow for gym – I have work to do before heading to the school tomorrow morning (as I left a little earlier today due to being completely brain-dead by about four! but I wasn’t the only one, we were dropping like flies…), so I might just get up my regular 7am, get to work 8ish so I can have a full day of work and then gym in the afternoon. At least it’s not too busy once it gets to the hot and sweaty afternoon! And you never know, it might actually be cooler tomorrow! (or perhaps not?)

A place for Everything

And everything in its place.

It’s been very much a day of sorting, tidying, cleanig things up. My own mess and others!

Got up at the insane hour of 5am – but it was quite pleasant that that time! I got myself ready, and got to the gym as it opened at 6am, did my hour of cardio (elliptical and bike today) and some light machine weights (had to take it easy on some still sore from Saturday’s shenanigans!) instead of the free weights I tend to do with Rish – I’ll probably still do free weights on Thursday morning in our usual weight training slot. Very glad I got there for 6am – it was getting hot already, and I missed the crowd so really only had to deal with the grossness of my own sweat rather than everyone else’s! I also knew there was no way I was going to get there tonight… not with the heat, and having the clean the house ahead of the inspection tomorrow morning…

Work was file auditing all day – meaning going through every file in the cabinets and seeing if they’re meant to be open, when they were last seen and what other things they have i them – like consent forms, action plans, service charters and reports… and also how much chasing up we have to do around all of these before Christmas!! It was interesting to see the piles left for different people to follow-up on growing. Mine at least didn’t turn up too many surprises in who needed following up. I can safely say that I’m mostly on top of my caseload. Mostly!!! :p

Finished earlier than expected, so I flexed off at 4pm to come home and get started on the cleaning… getting there, I keep stopping and starting, but I really only have the floors to do now. :) It was just raining now, which coooled me down a little, but it’s stopped. I think it remembered there was a drought on at the moment, and really, it shouldn’t rain.
