Do you ever find role-playing to be a good learning tool? (in the non-sexual sense. role playing can teach alot, particularly if I play the role of ‘teacher’ Miss Fiona with cane in hand…) I remember having to do it through uni – ‘Okay Amanda, now you pretend to be a stuttering client, and Fiona will teacher you prolonged speech’… and rememebr feeling like it was just acting rather than teaching… but after awhile you get practised at it, even if it’s just for pretend, and it’s easer to say the right things at the right time when you’re with the client/patient/colleague/examiner… and after awhile you feel like you actually do know what you’re talking about and aren’t some acting fraud.
Work’s still like that at times, feeling like soemtimes I have to say things a few more times until I feel like I really know what I’m talking about, not ust using someone else’s knowledge and words. Making them my own, putting my own opinions into them. Sometimes I feel like my personal and professional development can be slow at times, but seeing small changes.
This weekend I’m off to Melbourne for a branch presidents meeting. Feeling like I’ll learn more than I can contribute at this stage, but liking the opportunity to put myself out there and try something new. Plus I’m getting flown there, put up at the Oaks and being wined and dined at a place called the Curry Vault which looks rather sweet ;) Plan is I’ll get there in the morning so I can do some Melbourne clothes shopping. Hopefully I won’t come back with much, but I might find something I like that I couldn’t get here in Canberra :) I also have a new Marie Claire that came today to read on the plane to inspire…

So, who thinks I could become the 5th (pink) Teletubby???

I mean they were only my idols throughout the latter part of highschool. I’ve watched their Christmas special a million times, and have all the gear – Lala is of course my favourite (most like me!) so I had the pyjama bag, mini tubbies, stickers, HUGE post on my wall, and the backpack that I took for years 11 and 12.
I’m having issues with the website, so can’t see if there’s any videos up there. But if I were to do it, I’d have to be the pink one. Could I be Pinky-Pinky? Or is that too close to Tinky Winky? oh the decisions! *runs off for a little teletubbies nostalgia* Shame the conest was a year ago!
(I know there are those out there that would say that the Teletubbies are bad for children’s language development… but yet again I think it’s a cas eof it’s fine for those average normally developing kids, it’s just those who are having problems are going to have them regardless of what their fave tv show is… it’s just when they’re obsessed that the worries begin!)
Oh! Download a desktop Teletubbie!

Canberra’s children are heading back to school today. Should see the evidence of that all over – yesterday it was the masses of children and parents in the stationery aisle at Woolworths, and the lines at Just Cuts for that back to school trim. (even spied a couple of kids I hoped were going into kindy walking around in their school uniforms, including hat!).
Today the traffic will increase. I’ll have to drive through several school zones. Hopefully there won’t be too many parents doing incredibly stupid things driving-wise in their four wheel drives outside the schools. You know, lik parking across the school crossing so little Jenny can get a safe run in, other kids be damned.
Should also get busier for me at work. With school being back, parents and teachers will start contacting about what they need to be doing this year with the kids, and my diary should be booking up.
Today though, it’s just meetings. One with the other speechies who go to the special schools, two supervision meetings (I get two supervisors, aren’t I lucky?) and another one to sort out what to do with the kindy kids. Don’t have netball tonight to take out any of the fidgetyness I get into the day (probably a good thing as my knee hasn’t been too happy this weekend)… but will have to gym it out tonight.
I’m thinking my sister should have gotten us girls to sign Bridesmaids Prenups…

So we went to see Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street last night. It was that, or Juno, but we figured we could watch that down the tack on dvd… theory is, that a serial killer flick with sining would be much better on the big screen. And given how dark everything was, I don[‘t think I would have been able to see it that well on the computer monitor!
Yet again though, I’m glad I didn’t have to pay full price to see it. After, yes again, having issues with the gift card Mum gave me (it was replaced last timer we went) and me getting flustered over that, it was only $8/ticket (anyone know if they’re also looking at closing Greater Union at Manuka? Just because tickets were $8 in Civic before that closed recently…)
Excessive amounts of blood splatter (how many slashes and stabs should it take for the blood to stop spurting out of a neck??) and irritating parts to the story (I’m sure there would be more to it in the book…) but yeah. It was a nice way to spend the evening, although hunger took a bit to set in after it *blech*
Today’s looking like a quiet morning, maybe odd jobs in the afternoon, and catching up with friends and/or dancing tonight. I will be needing caffine though, as for some reason we stayed up waay too late watching the Sixth season of Scrubs, and was left banging our heads against the walls at the predictable and cringe-worthy end to the season. But yes, when we get our hands on it, we’ll watch season 7.
