It's just a song

March 8, 2008 · 0 comments

I wasn’t going to buy anything today, but on my way into the city, they said of Triple J that the Hottest 100 cd was being released today, so I just had to pop along to add it to my collection.

Hottest 100 15

If you buy it from the ABC shop at the moment, it’s at the bargain price of $24.95. For 2 cds (a huge 43 songs!) that’s an awesome price. even if there are a few songs you will skip every time ;) Tracklisting is here.

Which brings me to having to sort out the songs I want on my ipod again. While at the gym, pondering the question of whether it’s true that thin people run or that running makes you thin (while huffing and puffing away feeling like I was dying), I realised that I really need to set up two playlists on my ipod – one for active gym stuff and one for calm, trying to ignore everyone at work while writing reports stuff. Because I kept having to skip over songs that I love, but that wouldn’t make me run. SO that’s what I want to achievve tonight. Two playlists!

Thought I might share my gym efforts on here. Yout won’t be privvy to my food journal because that’s still a little shaky and too personal, but the gym stuff I might as well! [click to continue…]

Long Weekend!

March 8, 2008 · 0 comments

Last week was one of the rare weeks of working 5 full days this term… and they were certainly full days! I’ve usually left work by around 4:30 on a Friday, but and 5:30 a few of us were just finishing up … with the feeling of “we need a drink” *sighs all around*.

I still have a massive to do list from last week to tackle when I’m back to it on Tuesday (Canberra Day monday!) and also some notes that didn’t quite get written. I think one extra factor in it being such a draining week was carrying a cold through it… and that I had dropin clinic, and a language group (5 year one boys with langauge needs? argh!!) without the other SP who was off sick all week.

So I’m going slow this weekend. I will get to the gym each day, and I do have other things I’d like to get done, but step by step :)

Today is Internation Women’s Day… I know one group of gusy who are totally not in the spirit of things and will be seeing a stripper or two while out on a bucks night tonight ;) But, more seriously, I’m sitting here contemplating the issues around pay equality. Being in a female dominated workplace, wondering about the value of “Allied health” workers. I suppose we do wind up falling into that “nurturing/caring” category, like teachers and nurses, as we work with children and with adults with disabilities. Are we undervalued due it it being women’s caring work? Or is it just how it is? Honestly I have little idea on the issue and am just musing it over. I know we don’t have the numbers power of teachers and nurses – you know it when the teachers are striking, it affects peoples routines and so forth, but would the general public even hear about a strike of allied health providers? Yes, the clients who were cancelled on, but the rest?

Anyway.

:) I think it’s just a day to think about how far women’s rights have come, and to at least have in your mind that there may still actually be a ways to go.

With that, I’m hungry. What should I have for Brunch? (so over cereal!)

Sore!

March 5, 2008 · 0 comments

Okay, I did my jogging thing today… made my 5 mins @ 9kph, and did a little extra at the end (one lap on the virtual track on the treadmill, then half a lap at 6.0, then back to 9.0 until I hit the 20 min mark). Fun stuff. I have sore feet now – they’re so not used to actually jogging in my joggers!

Was amused when the OK Go Treadmill Song came on my Ipod. It did that yesterday too. Creepy.

I also figured out what mad emy ankles sore (besides the crashing of my weight on them) – the new step machines are harder on them than the old one. Tough today. I’ll get there!

Better make dinner – mushrooms, roo fillet and onion with some baby spinach thing…. Rish is getting me up at 5:30 for the weights session that I’ve been putting off :p

And my WeatherPixie looks like she could mug you while you’re bother out jogging:

Running through

March 5, 2008 · 0 comments

I am not a runner.

Well, not naturally, it’s something I’m going to have to teach myself. To work my way up to. That’s why I have a jogging target as one of my goals – to be able to jog at 10.0kph for 20 minutes. Now when I do have little burst of jogging that’s not on a sporting field or court, I go at about 9.0kph… and I thought it was about 3 mins. So, a very long ways to go.

Yesterday morning I got up brought and early and was at the gym just after 6am. It was still very dark, and dark until close to 7am. But it was cool, it was quiet, and I’m going there tomorrow mornging for a weights session with Rish (I think) and again Friday morning for cardio… (not this morning – I have time to go tonight, and I was up too late watching India beat Australia. Ponting is such a sook.)

Ok. I had to start somewhere. So, since the treadmills were nice and free (no line-ups or people on them who I’m sure had been there for longer than the allowed 30 mins) I hoppped on and started at a walking pace, to get myself moving… Then upped to my usual 9.0… and lasted at that speech for 5mins, or two songs on my ipod. Small steps, but at least I’ve taken the first one.

I then spent another hour on other equipment – something, which is like an elliptical trainer, but you can adjust the height your legs have to step up, and then the stepper. Sweaty!

(Let’s just move on from the fact that i then went on to eat too many “Sometimes foods” as the kids would call them while reading the Very Hungry Caterpillar (oh I love that book) in the day)

Today is a new day. A Wednesday, so I know there will be a meeting which will probably have cake involved. I will have a small slice if it’s something I like, but won’t delve into some of the other things I had today. :p

Not long til wordpress 2.5!

(I will be a runner, it will just take time and hard work!)

It starts… now

March 3, 2008 · 0 comments

SO, Last year I got an It’s all about me diet and exercise journal, and used it religiously for about 8 weeks, lost a few kilos, then slowly petered out… to the point where over the past few months I’m heavier than my original starting weight…

So, I bought a new one. Started on Friday, properly did my measurements this morning… and am probably glad I did, given the freak out I had over all my clothes being crap and not fitting properly into a size twelve any more and a cute shirt I bought looking horrible on me after I brought it home and tried it on again. Reducing me of course to tears…

So, of course I lean of Rish to whip me into shape … and we start with some goals. With numbers in them. Numbers like 64, 20 and 10. Oh and 5 and 2. And phrases like “I can” and “I will”.

Tonight should probably be the last round of netball… I doubt we’ll make it to the final next week ;) WE barely scraped in at 4th… so I’m planning on picking up a monday circuit class – provided I get to the gym on time. It starts at 530, so I’ll go to it the weeks I make it there, and other weeks I’ll do something on another night – maybe a pump or step class on a Wednesday.

So, yet again, I’m getting back to it, but this time I will have Rish over my shoulder (I got him a jounral too, in black for boys) so we can be at each other :p
