A Different Brand
Kelly is going to throw something at the computer when she reads that I’m sick with Tonsillitis *ducks* … yeah.. again. This time it definately has the white spots that are tonsillitis, and I have a swollen left gland that you can see in the mirror… Onto yellow and white pills, not pink like last time. They’re the same thing, just different brands. So it’s a good thing I’m not allergic to Penicillin, otherwise I don’t know what would be done with me.
(Oh and I did ask what I could do to stop this from coming back. Nothing really, so long as I keep healthy etc etc *shrugs* I think I need to have less “big” weekends? But I was told that getting my tonsils out was not something they’re recommend until I had it at least 6 times in a year and the anitibiotics weren’t really doing anythign for me. So far, they clear it up. So if I get it 2 more times before Feb next year… help me *sigh*.. but with summer coming, etc etc, I should be better off.)
Just need to get over this hump. Fortunately(?) there’s a little bit of down time being school holidays at work… so when I do go back Thursday, it shouldn’t be too frantic. There’s the long weekend, and while I’ll be trekking to Newcastle (not actually trekking… driving), I’m going to aim to have a relaxing weekend. And on antibiotics, I shoudn’t drink alcohol, so that will be good for me. It’ll be beach weather in Newcastle next weekend, right? So I can spend some time in the sun or under my umbrella and just be? :)
Evactuation? But it’s my day off!
All I wanted to do was to get a cheap hair cut from Just Cuts, so went on down to Westfield at Woden this morning to do that… but nooooooo… we had to be evacuated (4th time for me in 2 weeks) due to a fire in a candle store (Dusk). At least there were fire men?
I did move on after that… haven’t had a hair cut, but am sitting here with red purple dye on my head, hair, shoulders… and had it on my nose. And I managed to buy shoes… and lingerie… in my size :) I was aiming for w new white bra, but I came home with a blue and a green… Sometimes it just goes like that *grins*
Floriade, Crazy Drivers and the biggest magnet I’ve put on my fridge
Work sorrta made us go along to Floriade today. By made, I mean it was decided at some point that since the team leader wasn’t going to be there for our weekly meeting, and because the early childhood team were doing it, we would have lunch and spend out usual meeting time at Floriade.
Nice enough, but very glad Rose drove me, as by that point in the day I was feeling woozy and not ready fr sunshine, a meeting, or food..
Did of course make time for the gnomes.
After that I had to get back to go on a home visit down Tuggeranong way. On Drakeford heading back? I was stopped in the right hand lane amongst traffic, and a police car comes behind us with its lights and siren… ducks into the left slip or bus lane… and two busses stop in the middle of the intersection to give way. Ugh… it looked messy aleady.. and sure enough, once the busses pulled past? The cop car had hit one of the other cars that was driving past the otehr side of the busses. Who was surprised at that? I don’t think it was at much speech, looked like bumper from a 4WD a bit mangled on the ppolice car. Lucky. Very Lucky.
Third exciting moment of a day which I spent a fair bit in a daze? This HUGE magnet I got out of my letterbox just now:
How much does a magnet that size cost? Not sure if David Mathews will be getting my vote… but he doesn’t have the worst slogan in the capaign. Getting it done? Much better than that better fella for brindabella or some of the other Liberal ones I’ve seen. I think there was a “Jac lives here” for Jacqui someone… and “Standing tall” because this woman looked quite tall. Please let me know if there’s a Liberal candidate with a decent slogan! It feels like the year 6 school captain elections over again!
(at least he’s using wordpress?)
Good thing I have a huge to do list ready to go on such a thing as that magnet awaiting me at work. Are we there yet? *dies*
At least it wasn’t raining … yet
So there are advantages to working in a building that you’ve been evacuated three times from in a week. Like being able to come home and take the washing off the line before the dust and mud storms come rolling in again.
So, we were sent home last monday with the power out. Friday morning we got in, and were sent outside just as I was off on a school visit because we could smell gas. Everyone was in again by the time I got back, being told to head back by someone because they basically didn’t believe us because tehre was no smell of gas by the time official people got there.
Then this morning, I walk in and I’m asked “do you smell gas” .. no I can’t smell anything today, let alone gas… 25 minutes later we’ve collected handbags and spent the next few hours out of the building. For me that was 90 minutes out gossiping in the gorgeous sunshine, then ducked off on a school visit via home because the rain was coming, returning to work in time for lunch and 10 minutes after everyone went inside.
Three fire trucks including Hazmat. We felt special.
And now the rain and wind is here. I’m told it was good that I hadn’t washed the car yet, because it was only going to get worse overnight, adn I should wait until mid week.
(And another evacuation?)
Banana it is
Just back from a lake loop jog with Rish. 31:06 for the 5kish loop. Not bad not bag, considering external factors such as a late night drinking at the cocktail bars of Canberra (Muddle then Hippo), a feeling that I’ve got some sort of bug still in my system (wussy coughs that make my brain feel bruised), having a few days break from any exercise, and the strong headwind that of course only picked up over the very last and hardest part of the run!
I have a banana and a glass of cold milk in front of me. The banana is very very ripe, so sweet! :p
We went out to the new DFO Canberra earlier today… very busy, and it would have been excellent if I was in a shopping mood, but I wasn’t so at least I have a feel for the place now… head back again (not in the school holidays though! that would be suicidal) when I can and do some shopping for summer. I can’t just wear my Emo bear shirt or my other Threadless stuff the whole time.
(does anyone else know children who call Elmo (from Sesame Street) “Emo”? Who come up to you and tell you “I love Emo”. “No dear, you mean Elmo”… or is it just a hazard of my profession?)

New Toy
Finally got around to buying a new camera. After trying to take a pic today and the poor old thing’s (my four year old ixus i!) screen flicking off like it did in Athens airport, I thought, that’s it, I’ll get a new camera this week. Well next time I get to a shopping centre, with catching the bus today, that meant this afternoon I got to Woden before the shops shut! A Canon ixus 80is it was. My old one serves me well, it takes my SD cards, and it’s a handy size.
So that’s my first photo with it. Too much flash, I’m going to blind someone with it! :) But at least it’s a working camera.
Magazines, crumpets, eggs and kerosene
After failing at my mission yesterday during the weekly grocery shop to buy eggs for a frittata (what?I need 8 eggs for it? surely I could remember to buy them) oh and for the lemon butter I was going to make with the massive amount of lemons I bought… and for the bikkies I’d make with the other half of the butter… I bought them tonight. With crumpets to go with the lemon butter (thought I’d give the Coles brand a try as they were less than half the price of the Golden crumpets). And kero.
And no, the kerosene is not to power my lamps, despite the power failure that cut my work day short. Ah, the saga that is Holder. The former primary school which we reside in, which after years of work is at a good point… though I think we miss the contant evacuations… mostly because of the call outs by the fire brigade ;) Who wouldn’t want to be the fire warden with those guys running around? It’s been awhile, so that’s why (even though there were horrible winds and rain blowing sings and trees down this afternoon) I was a little surprised to have the lights go out about 430pm. Our main fear? The sliding electric doors didn’t want to open! Early mark for all, though I’m hoping I didn’t have anything important open on my computer at the time!
So, I have eggs, and a night of cooking ahead. If I don’t get distracted.
(I’m hunting pirates)
How’d I get there?
Had a decent gym session today. Sunday’s one of my “running” days, so I hopped on the treadmill, and thought I’d try something diffreent. An 8.0/9.5 km/h intervals, 5mins each. I warmed up into it, and went well until I really just needed to run to the toilet.
But then I came back, and went for 6.5/9.0 2 minute intervals, upping the run speed at each one, bringing it home at 12 (and no, I didn’t fall off). Felt good, but I think I’ll seize up in the morning!!! By the end of that set, I’d gone over 4.3km, and don’t know how I got there, considering I walked half of it! *bounces*
Okay, to bed. An early-ish night, still plan to watch a DVD that Phil burned for us while we were up. Then sleep. A scary-busy two weeks ahead of me before the end of the school term. I’m hoping I hold out for it all… and that I can ignore all distractions, and get all those reports done on time. *dies*

Something about the Weather
I don’t have photos of the gigantic Floriade tulips that are in Civic, though I walked past them today. I’m thinking next weekend for Floriade myself, it was gorgeous weather for it today (Still 22 degrees now!), is meant to rain tomorrow though…
Relaxed day, read the paper, did the washing, gymmed, shopped (piecing together a 1920s flapper-type costume for a party in a fortnight) and.. yeah… just peaceful :) I almost bought a new camera, but snarted sneezing so wandered off and never got back to it. Hehe. My poor 4-year-old Ixusi is dying slowly. Had a good life.
Frost under foot
As much as I cursed and yelled at him this morning, I’m happy that Rish took me on a jog past the golfcourse.
Yes, it was still zero degrees when we got back, and yes I felt like crying. But I felt mentally good for doing it :p
And I didn’t trip over, despite stubbing my toes 16 million times on tree roots. And I only fell off the footpath towards the houses, not onto the road – this is why a guy should always walk on the road side of a footpath with me. Or a girl. Or a toddler. Because they have better ballance than me.
A hot shower got rid of the numbness and the icicles that were in my lungs. Glutton for punnishment, though I’m glad it’s “getting warmer”. pfft.
