Moving It
In the process of moving everything from this place to the new place. Going to do the big stuff on the weekend, many boxes are going already… In the process of changing addresses over, figuring out electricity and gas (I’ve never lived in a house with gas stuff in use before… watch me learn to use the stove without injuring myself…).. yeah.
The highlights of the new place … aside from being able to fall out of bed to get to work… the bookshelf, which is full of the landlord’s books to read… in front of the fireplace :) Sweet. You know where to find me next winter (it will be negotiated whether I’m allowed to use the fireplace without supervision :p heh).
Party, Yum Cha, Boost and Home.
I think we’ve figured out our “Sydney Routine”.
- Check into the hotel (that we’ve booked through Wotif.com or through a new place like Hotels Combined) about 2pm after remember again that we hate the stretch along South Dowling Drive…
- Find lunch. This time around we stuffed ourselves silly with Manchurian Sweet and Sour Pork and some dumplings in Chinatown.
- Shop a bit. *grins*
- See what the hotel’s facilities are like. We checked out the pool. Great view from the 8th floor of the Citigate… but getting cold. And too many kiddies!
- Get ready for whatever the evening has in store for us
- Party?
- Stumble back to the hotel just before sunrise. Not get much sleep before checkout
- YUM CHA BREAKFAST. Highlight of any Sydney trip. Disserting the evening before. Rehydrating from any excessive consumpion of alcohol with the green chinese tea on offer
- Wander/Shop/GET A BOOST SMOOTHIE
- Leave! Take shifts driving because neither one of us has had enough sleep that we really should be in control of a large machine hurtling down the Hume at 100km/h.
- Home and bed
The Citigate was good. Especially for $145/night! We had a room on the second top floor (17th) and the view was gorgeous… from the window near the lift, not necessarily from the room (a great view of UTS). Bed was large, comfortable (for the little time we spent in it!) and the staff were friendly. Shower cap was provided (the one thing I love in a hotel bathroom) … and it was right in Chinatown which fits in with all of life’s plans!
Back to reality again. We signed the lease for our new place yesterday. Get the keys on Tuesday and move on the 1st. Busy busy busy from here on in…
(for the other bloggers and for the facebookers out there… Hotels Combined is given $20 to charity if you blog about them, or $5 if you join their Facebook group. Details here)
It’s moving time!
Gee B1 and B2 proved great conversational starters in my younger years…
Anyway… (Do you know what time it is?)
We’ve got ourselves a place very very close to where I work… meaning walking to work every day! *bounce* Slightly larger than we have now, but technically a townhouse… though it’s not a little box courtyard like some.
So, it’s time to start packing up the house, cleaning for inspections an so forth. Moving weekend will be the “long” weekend at the start of November (I get the Tuesday off as a public holiday for Melbourne Cup.. oh I mean “Family and Community Day” o some such tripe so will of course be taking Monday of on Flex)… means two days to move out and clean the old place, and two days to settle my life into a new egion of Canberra. :p So I’ll have now lived Inner North, Inner South, Woden and now in Weston Creek. That leaves Belconnen, Tuggeranong and Gunghalin, right? Let’s not go there :p\
Will start the packing after this weekend. Have a mini-getaway to Sydney planned with Rish (yes, I pre poll voted for the election this afternoon. I like electronic voting! There’s an ‘undo’!)… Accomodation in a King Room at the Citigate… so looking forward to a swim.. and happy with Wotif for their rates *grins*
Japanese. Burlesque.
Just got word that there’s going to be a “Continuing” Japanese course running next semester (Feb onwards) at the ANU CCE. *dances* Now to (a) remember to enroll; (b) buy the text and (c) brush up my reading at least over summer.
THere’s also going to be a beginners burlesque dance course running through the sports union over summer break. Question on that is whether I can get in early enough to enroll before it’s filled :p Otherwise I may take on poll dancing. We shall see. *grins* (I need something to do, it looks like I’ll not be taking more leave than Christmas Shutdown at this stage)
On that note? A corsetry link (yeah, not all safe for work) that Rish sent me this morning in order to slow my getting ready for work. Damn him! *drools*
Local DJ
I’ve not been to a party in someone’s house before with a DJ all set up with his many speakers, turnables and … well laptop these days…
Nothing but the local DJ.
He said he had some songs to play.
What went down from this fooling around.
Gave hope and a brand new day.
[Loving the Ting Tings :)]
Hey it was a complete novelty for me anyway :) Gave me something to do when the conversation lost my interest. Dance!
(And the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums.)
Stand Back: Domestic Genius at Work
Okay, I’m sure I’ve mentioned my periods of being banned from doing household tasks such as the dishes (relegated to wiping up), and doing Rish’s washing due to one too many tissue incidents (bans have been lifted due to the necessity of me being available to do these tasks).
I was just putting out washing, a couple of loads (second load took ages – you kind of have to lean on the washing machine to stablise it sometimes when there’s larger items like towels, sheets, or jujitsu stuff)…
Putting a denimn skirt on the line. It’s a nice sunny day, over 20 degrees, so I think to myself “Oh I should change out of these jeans and into that skirt, would be much better for spring”. I moved on fromt hat and completed the hanging of the washing.
Walked back into the house and realised that, actually, that wouldn’t really work, as the skirt is WET and that’s why I was hanging it out. *shakes head* It seemed like such a good idea too. Maybe tomorrow?
*ahem*
I should stick to tasks I seem to be very good at. Like shopping for shoes and underwear :p
(But no handbags. Why are all the handbags so ugly at the moment? I want a new one sometime soon, but awesome Kathy Van Zeeland one is starting to get all tatty… want a new one before summer. Any suggestions?)
Back on the Hunt
Ahh, the Canberra rental market… HATE it hate it hate it.
The new landlord has decided that a $55 a week rental increase is what they’d like… so… we’re looking around at our options, starting the process of going to open houses, seeing what’s out there that might be suitable. Oh and I’m sure we’ll be putting in applications left, right and centre on anything that looks reasonably prices, suitable and/or closer to my work so I can at least save of fuel costs if not on rent.
*breathes*
We’re still mostly looking at houses… we like our space, like to have a backyard (even if ours is a bit of a jungle at the moment), and garages are more likely… an apartment would really need to have the right location for us to consider it… I don’t like people that much :p
So – time to put allhomes back on my regular browsing list (ooh new property – call them call them!!!) and get all my incomes and references ready to copy out a million times.
Wish us luck?
How good is food?
So, went back to work today. I’m certainly still not 100%, throat still hurts and some of my glands are still puffy, along with just being tired and a little drained… but a million times better than on Friday/Saturday – when I was struggling to even swallow my saliva, water or pills, let alone trying to talk or eat! *sigh*
Anyway. I’m glad to be able to have food again, even if I do still have pain… it’s nothing like on the weekend…
It’s not supposed to get harder
I think generally I’m feeling better. Well my headache is gone, my body aches gone. I’ve had a bit of a temperature coming and going, but I don’t see that going anywhere for awhile…
But I swear it’s getting harder to swallow. It’s certianly getting harder to talk. The glands in my throat are still round balls, and I doubt my tonsils are going down… noone really wants to look in there…
Most horrible bit? Waking up with a dry mouth. And not just a little bit dry – I touched my tongue with my finger and it was dry. *sigh*
Yes. I am gross. It took me an hour to get through 2/3 tub yoghurt… I’m wondering if they have frozen coke or do thickshakes at the local takeaway… It’s still hard to swallow, but at least it would be cooling. Otherwise I might head to Woden for the simple pleasure of a Boost smoothie. At least I’ll be getting some sort of nutrition into me that way. Am trying to keep my water up… but it’s just as hard to swallow as everything else!
Okay, go about your day. I’m off with Rish and some friends to Newcastle tonight. hopefully the weather there will be reasonable, and I can be left in a park with a book. Or something else that doesn’t require me to talk or eat. *cries*
Pain!
It seems that I have forgotten how to swallow. My mother always told me that I must be sick if I’ve got an aversion to food (who was a chubby little child, hmm?) … and this is one of those times. It’s taken me an hour to try to eat my black rice that Rish cooked so lovingly… now I need to try to keep drinking water, otherwise I’m going to injure my liver or kidneys or something with painkillers and antibiotics.
I have the next two days off work too, hopefully by the end of the long weekend I’ll be feeling normalish… if I’m not, then off for testing it is *sigh* But I’ll be better, or at least well on the way. *nods*
Oh and reasons besides sickness and feeling like crap and headaches and pain that I’m not at work? It hurts to talk. It feels like I’m having to push past something to get any sort of sound out. Plus, I don’t want anyone to have to look in my mouth… “Say /k/ little child, just copy what I do” ugh. Don’t look at me! :p Just because my throat is puffy and my tonsils red and huge and my tongue gross as… (but not beached as *giggles*)
