Aunty Fi?

January 17, 2009 · 6 comments

So, yeah. I’m told that my little (oh she’s 24, but she’s still my baby sister) is pregnant, and so I’m going to be an Aunty.

Important question time. What should and aunt, whose name is Fiona, be referred to as by her niece or nephew?

Well I am unlikely to be an Aunty… But I suppose I was to my kids’ cousins. Then I was just Aunty Fiona. My brother never wanted to be called Uncle so he is called Peter Rabbit. Well that’s the nice version!

When I was childfree, a close friend’s children always called me Auntie Owna!

Good luck!

My sister called me Owna until she figured out how to say /f/ correctly :)

Maybe I’ll just be Fiona. or phona. or something. I always get kids at schools to call me by my first name. I’m so not into formalities!

Oh, I think Aunty Fi sounds sweet!

I, on the other hand, was not only Uncle Jim, but to my first newphew, I was the Godfather. At some point, I’ll be Uncle Jim again to my best friend’s unborn child. And, since I can’t have kids of my own anymore, thanks to the chemo, I solemnly swear that Uncle Jim’s house will be the funnest house ever. (Also, I have a head start with my fully automatic, belt-fed Nerf machine gun!)

I’m suitably un-qualified to be a godmother. *grins* But I’m quite happy to be a fun and awesome Aunty.
