mmm purtiful

Yes, new layout. I like this one, more readable than the last :) But, still needs a bit of a beat around, so if you notice anything odd, please point it out to me :)

Today was.. well.. mixed. attempted my performance evaluation. Gave up. Got notes done.

Went to the gym though, and Killed myself on the adaptive motion trainer, which was GREAT :) Sweated so much, and earned my dinner, which is currently simmering on the stove…

It’s Pink and It Vibrates

I got a chance to try the new (pink) Neutrogena Wave Power Cleanser from the girls at the That’s Noice! blog.

IMG_5094

I have to say, I think I used it wrong when I first started – I think that you can attach the disposable cleansing pads in 2 ways – and I did it the wrong way and it wasn’t foaming. And then I switched it over, and it did :p My face feels clean, and I like the sensory feeling of the vibrations on my face. Apparently the refills will be $13.99 for 30… sounds a little dear to me, but I might get some if they go on special. (It’s $20 for the thingy itself. Bit of an outlay, I guess. Depends how cheap you are!)

Perhaps I should try it again after a sweaty gross gym session. Or after a day with full sunscreen. That would test it out better! (Keep you posted)

Under 31!

Left home when the stars were still out at 6am, to go for a jog with Rish… aim was to show that, despite not doing this exact run for over a month, I’d still be able to match or beat my previous time of 31:19.

I did it – 31:59 (or 31:58:57 I think? hehe)

Not sure how – all the other stuff must be helping somehow – making it up as I go along, with more shorter runs, and harder elliptical or bike sessions. Something like that, and then to get the times on the longer run.

Oh well *grins*

You Don’t Know Me

Long meetings today at work, generating more work to do, somehow I’m going to fit it in, a few more early starts I think so I can get things done before other people show up to distract me, annoy me, give me more work to do. Could have easily stayed at work way too long today.

But I had my first Japanese class for the year instead. Needed to switch the brain to that, turn from all the reports to write to talking about things like finding the supermarket. Bringing my language levels closer to that of the kids I work with.

:p

*sigh*

(ps – is there an easy way to type hiragana and katakana into wordpress?)

Yes, I have a sore throat and head and struggled to get up to go grocery shopping just now. But if I can hold out until Wednesday morning, that would make life so much easier. For everyone.

Discharge, goals met.

Towards the end of last year, one of the girls I work with announced at a meeting “After two years working here, I’ve finally discharged my first client as within normal limits”. We applauded, sympathised, and reflected on our own caseloads.

When I started as a new grad therapist, I inherited a caseload that hadn’t been seen in six months. Half form one therapist who left and the other half from another who went on maternity leave. Most newbies have a similar story. The first couple of weeks are spent sending out review letters, receiving phone calls back from some (some happy that you’re there, and some suddenly remembering that their child should have been in therapy, and getting angry). But Some you don’t hear from, and you discharge them, getting good at that task.

I wish I had a percentage of people I’ve discharged just because I hadn’t heard back. Or perhaps I don’t…

Yesterday, I got to close a case. His speech sounds weren’t 100% there (still working on shaping the s and r to sound a bit more accurate) but after 5 years in the service, he’d come a huge way, and there wasn’t anything I was doing that his mother wasn’t completely capable of doing. He’ll miss skipping school for appointments, but he’ll live.

The other weird thing is with our service structure, I’m now getting kids back who were in that initial lot or just after who are starting to go to school, still with speech or language issues, but with a lot less to work on than back then. Nice to see them grow up – but I wish they could all be fixed by school.

Fruit Tingles

So Saturday night was Spent in Sydney for a high school friend’s 27th birthday. Let’s get over that since he’s turning 27, the rest of us will be shortly. Great views of the Harbour Bridge, good company, and probably too many fruit tingles.

Feelings of Competency

Work has introduce new performance management processes for this year. I’m sure they’ve had similar things in the past, but there’s not really been anything that formal since I’ve been there. Basically, we just would think “hmm what PD is on this year that I want to go to?” and write our plans around that! This time, well I’ve kinda done that already, (and received close to full funding for an Autism workshop I want to go to in April, and went to that Stuttering one earlier this week) we have to do it “properly” this time. Giving myself numbers from 0-4 based on how my skillz rate, discussing with my immediate supervisor, then with the senior, then with my team leader. What a process!

Went to the special school I visit this morning for the first time this year. And felt like I knew what I was talking about. And that perhaps, I was being listened to. Yeah, they were “basic” suggestions (from a speechie point of view!) but they were needed, and I think that I was being effective in my job.

Good start to the year.
