Newcastle doesn’t really have winter. Well it does, but I think it lasted for about 3 days with a frost. I remember freezing in our little demountable classrooms (don’t NSW school suck when it comes to housing kids in these things??) in Winter, and boiling in them in Summer. But I know what cold is now that I’m in Canberra!
Cold is walking up the hill to work at minus-something-or-other. It’s the fog not lifting until 2pm, for a glimmer of sun before it sets at 4:30! It’s the crunch of frosts under your feet. It’s looking at the BOM online repeatedly, and celebrating at lunchtime that it’s cracked zero degree.
I love winter in Canberra. I might complain, but I love it.
The cold air makes me smile.

It’s not Newcastle’s fault that Canberra is an unbareable ice box.
But it’s hardened me up a little, this ice box :)
Ok, that photo makes me feel guilty about EVER turning my heater on in Brisbane…
I used to live in the Southern Highlands and it was coooold – even snowed infrequently – but it was nothing like your Canberra weather.
Fog not lifting until 2pm and then the sun going down at 4.30pm? – eek!
