More Boxes (Xmas Exchange!)

I have found a way to re-use the box that the soy cooking milk came in…

I recieved my gift recipient for the Brown Paper Package Exchange in my email this afternoon. Now I just need to stalk their blog (as I think I saw someone doing this afternoon from that link in my stats!) to try to think of a good pressie. Maybe something with an “Aussie Bush Christmas” theme? Think thongs and koalas, and santa in shorts, along with ANZAC biscuit treats. :p

(I won’t be sending you soy milk, don’t worry!)

What’s in the Box?

Finally made it home about 6.30, to a cute little present box…

Carnation Soy Creamy Cooking Milk

Ooh Soy Creamy Cooking milk. Two tins, won through Not Quite Nigella… I’m so trying this tonight! (They don’t yet stock it at the local Woothworths at Weston Creek, so if I like it, I’ll have to ask them to get it in!)

I think Stoic was the word? mmm Chupa Chups!

Chuck’s Life Less Serious Champion Challenge

A little friend came to visit the other week… He introduced himself as Chuck. He liked living at his own pace, never too fussed about anything…

We had a little fun together, thanks to him, and his friends at Chupa Chup’s Life Less Serious sending him along with enough Chupa Chups for he and I to keep sugared up for… a day or so…

Chupa Chups

Unfortunately for Chuck, he hit my doorstep just as final uni assignments were due, and when I was hitting a sugar-free exercise bender… for general health and for my waistline… more Chupa Chups for him!

Chupa Chups

He took his stash with him to the gym… I wouldn’t let him in the change rooms, cheeky boy, so he waited it out in my locker while I changed and went for my run…

Chupa Chups

Found him in there, so patient. Seriously, this boy can NOT be upset by anything. Not even by the killer ducks at ANU…

October 103

(This couple had FOURTEEN ducklings this spring… anyone else in awe/thinking of putting off children even longer with that prospect? :p)

Chupa Chups

See, not phased one bit. Though he was a little surprised that they turned down his sugary goodness…

You could win $10,000 cash (or even your own lil Chuck) by showing off your Life Less Serious to Australia. What are you waiting for? :D

Chupa Chups

So patient… hopefully the ants won’t come and steal his sugar!

What’s your favourite flavour? I’m a Cola girl through and through!

Out of nothing

Flowers

Saw this little fella growing out of the corner of the Melbourne Building, near the Ali Baba’s. Cute burst of colour against the concrete.

It made me smile.

Overtaken

As seen over at Scarlet Words

Speaking of Elizabeth, I’m thinking of writing (and doing!) a 101 things in 1001 days list. But it will have to hold off until after I finish up at uni for the semester. My final assignment is due in 20 days. So after that.

In the mean time…

Rewards of Stalking

So many good things come from stalking. You make friends, you win bags, and you get the thrill of tracking someone down :p

Jen and her little (and rapidly growing) boy were some of my first “Real” clients as a “real” speech pathologist. Aren’t they lucky getting me as a new grad? ;) Pop-up pirate is still my favourite therapy game, but my skills and range of activities have grown – I hope!

Jen’s shop Red Instead Handmade is having a 20% off sale at the moment (I’m not sure if it’s til the end of the month?) so it’s a great time to check out Jen’s cool little shop :)

Text Graphic Handbag

How geek-cute is this Text Graphic Handbag? :) I could see a couple of you with it, bag in one hand, twittering on your iphones with the other…

The Terrible Plop

Meet the Stars of The Terrible Plop:

Characters

I think the highlights from today’s Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Awards today in Canberra were the readings and talks…

Not everything went according to plan, but it’s rare that things do! :) I honestly do not remember much of the ceremony, as I was on official photography duty for the assosciation. Too busy thinking of how to fit the (soon to be) minister into a shot with the Speech Pathology Australia banner behind. Hehe. :)

(Winners and nominees are listed on the award site)

More speech pathology in the media: Schools failing impaired students. The ACT is one of the few places in Australia to actually see an increase in Speech Pathologist numbers recently.

Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Awards

Well, this has certainly crept up on us!

At the end of last year, the ACT branch of Speech Pathology Australia was asked to host the 2009 book of the year awards. We of course said yes, good to have an event to start organising for!

And the day is here! How did that happen? The presentation is later this morning at the Civic Library, and I hope it all goes according to plan!

s1038~s600x600 Authors Ruth Starke (Noodle Pie), Mark Carthew (The Gobbling Tree) and Ursula Dubosarsky (The Terrible Plop) are the winners in their respective age categories for Speech Pathology Australia’s 2009 Book of the Year Awardsthe awards, and are all coming to receive them. I’m told by the others that Noodle Pie is a wonderful story and could be used in many areas of an upper primary curriculum.

“Meeting relatives for the first time isn’t easy. When they speak a different language and seem to be greedy and impatient and, worst of all, run a pretty crummy restaurant, it’s the pits. For Andy and his dad, a former refugee, returning to Vietnam is full of surprises”
