10 Weeks til Xmas!

October 16, 2009 · 0 comments

And already you can’t escape it in the shops… this tree was in my local Woolworths this morning, as I ducked in after my first weights session in MONTHS…

10 weeks til xmas

10 weeks til Xmas, 9 weeks left of school term. I’ll probably work through til Dec 23 as Rish is, then travel Christmas Eve rather than Xmas morning this year – traffic was all well and good until it took an hour or something rediculous to cross between the M2 and F3 freeways… NSW – your transport plan is a shambles. My work diary is booked up for much of the term already. Nuts.

Where has my year gone?

Because we still need to care about global warming

At work, we are being encouraged to shut down our computers at the end of the day (I generally do it at the end of the week, as it takes about 10 minutes from power on to being logged in) and I wonder if this does save more electricity?

(it’s been cited as one of the ways to meet out 1% efficicency dividend… as is spreading out workers across the whole week. When can we do the 4 day week?)

Spicy mouth spicy mouth!

Home taco seasoning

Thought I’d give making my own taco seasoning a go, using the Taco seasoing recipe from Planning with Kids I read this week.

Home taco seasoning

Eeps. I’m such a wuss. Will definitely have to put less in or less chili powder next time. My nose is running and my mouth on fire! (lack of cheese doesn’t help I’m sure!)

(thankful for the wine to wash it down!)

Nice to Know they care

October 12, 2009 · 0 comments

Heh, everyone at work was asking about my ankle this morning – I’d been at the other site Thurs / Fri so noone at my office had seen me since I left bleeding late Wednesday afternoon. The two who patched me up got to retell the excitement of the story, and my first aider was praised for not fainting. She did keep commenting on how sticky my blood was and that I should google what it could mean…

Mistake. Who’s up for self self-diagnosis?

I’ll stick with it being that I’m not drinking enough water and may or may not be replacing my low water intake with high amounts of caffeine in the form of Diet Coke. That’s it.

So… Anyone want to decaffeinate with me? *rolls eyes*

Pool in the Rain

October 9, 2009 · 0 comments

For some reason, Rish’s mum didn’t quite get that when we said we were plaing pool in the rain on grand final night… we were actually playing pool in the rain.

Outdoor Pool Table

The Albion Hotel at Wickham has an all-weather pool table. Plus a yummy menu. (Yes, I went to school with the chef ;) Doesn’t change a thing!) Shame for all the Parramatta supporters whose team failed at the night!

NRL Grand FInal

At least I picked the right side! :p (Wine in hand, too cool for school)

First Family Heirloom

Met the little nephew on the weekend :) At times he opened his eyes and realised there were things going on around him…

Liam

I decided to give him one of my childhood books (Mem Fox’s Sail Away) that my sister had given me when I was like five… and she was 3?

Sail Away

Now, he’ll just have to hang onto it 25 years or so to pass it onto whichever baby around that time… right?

Blood! 0.o

October 7, 2009 · 0 comments

More from the tales of phona the unco one.

Closed the gate at work on my heel a bit after 5 today, letting out my last kid of the day. Ugh. Blood everywhere. Aazing how much a little ankle can bleed. The first aid officer was thankfully still there to help patch me up, and to talk me into getting a tetanus booster in the morning – happy that the dr’s surgery picked up the phone and the nurse can give me a needle at 9am. Should probably get her to look at the gash to make sure I don’t need stitching up…

Tandoori-riffic

October 6, 2009 · 0 comments

It’s not quite the same as the fresh cooked tikka pieces from the tandoor oven at Uncle Raja’s curry house (accompanied by a garlic naan you’ve risked the flesh on your arm to cook), but it’s still yums!

Tandoori Chicken

It’s just breast pieces, coated with a mix of tandoori paste (there was a little left in the fridge, about 2 tbs), 200g natural Pauls low fat yoghurt, juice from half a lemon and a tsp ground cumin. Easy. Marinade for however long you can (over night is best, of course!) then oven on the rack like in the picture for half an hour or so.

Brazilian Butterfly

October 5, 2009 · 0 comments

With Summer supposedly on our doorstep, thought I’d better get started on theahir removal ritual .. and being useless at wazing/plucking/shaving myself, it’s best to leave certain areas to expert hands.

Came across a new salon Brazilian Butterfly via a flier at the gym. Perfect place to advertise, coming out of the showers there ;)

Quite happy with the results. The girl chatted away the whole time with me – you kinda need that to keep your mind off what’s happening below your belly button!

There are franchises in ACT, Victoria and Queensland… plus… you can book online! With either phone or email confirmation, plus a text a couple of days before to remind you to come. Saves describing the waxing details you want over the phone :p

Zambrero *crunch*

October 2, 2009 · 0 comments

Went in to meet Rish for lunch a couple of times this week, to relieve the boredom (I promise you, this was enough exertion for one day)… and Wednesday finally got to try Zambrero, the taco place on a corner at the Civic bus interchange. We’ve passed it a few times on a Sunday when it’s closed, with Rish saying “you have to go there with me one day” each time!

Dos Capas at Zambrero

We both ordered a Dos Capas each – for $4.95 you get a taco with a tortilla to hold it all together. Good size for me… though I still managed to lose much of my cheese and sauce. A little small for Rish though, he would have liked two to himself, and while $5 is okay for a small snack, it’s prbably not really $10 worth for two. Not with Subway so close!

But it was crunchy and yum, and it’s always nice to get some salad in at lunch time. *crunch*

Sunny Day

October 1, 2009 · 0 comments

It’s a gorgeous spring day today…. tops of mid 20s for Canberra on the first day of October. You think it might hang around for the long weekend? It seems not…

canberrralongweekendweather

This is when I start being happy I’ll in Newcastle for the long weekend. Until I see the weather predictions there:
