From Riayn’s twitter: Realising why we don’t have gay marriage since all my co-workers believe I should be happy with current defacto laws. Umm, no. 2. Also was told I could go overseas to get marriage. None of them realised that the Oz government refuses to recognise it.
Happy Sunday. (Alas I wasn’t at Mardi Gras, or the Eurotrash party I was invited too last night, instead I spent the evening watching “Step Up” and whatever Tomb Raider was on.)
Percy L. Spencer holds patent (US) 2480679 from 1949 on microwave popcorn.
Thank you Percy.
Went back to work today. One of the OTs tried to drop me home after our school visit this morning, but I stayed til the end. Mostly catching up on emails and progress notes. It’s amazing how fast you get behind! Especially at this time of the year when the teachers have found their feet and are starting to contact about the kids!
Headache on and off today, along with some puffiness still in my throat. Getting there. Didn’t fall asleep! :p
Friday tomorrow, then a full on weekend of Uni things! Got the first lecture for ‘Disabilities and Learning Difficulties’ – gotta get my readings done!
At the start of the month I declared that for Febusave (which I keep typing as Februsave, maybe next year the men’s version can be FeBroSave?) I would pack lunches for work and cut back on buying coffees and diet cokes…
I did quite well on the lunches front. I think I bought lunch once this month – and it was a day where I was due to take part in a group lunch at work, took one look at the Pide on offer, with all its cheese, and wandered out with someone else who couldn’t face that hehe.
Caffeine intake did drastically reduce, but not completely. As did the chocolate and snack buying at work – helped along by feeling hideous at eating cadbury’s and the work “shop” dissolving.
Extra expenses for this month such as text books for uni, registering for the conference in May, and buying pretty dresses weren’t factored in. But they can be supported, plus I’ll get the conference fee back soon from work.
All in all, I’m glad I stuck to the taking lunch thing, even if I might need a break from tuna for awhile! (I did have it for lunch today. Sheer apathy!)
Still to organise our actual dates to go to Europe. Getting there!
Lasted about five minutes out of bed this morning, before deciding that I wasn’t going to struggle though a day at work with a headache, woke up with a throbbing head, rather swollen throat glands, and just not wanting to stand up. So, called work to say I wasn’t going to be there, back to bed, up and down today, but mostly horizontal.
Felt better for it. Starting to fade a little now, but certainly more optimistic about the world.
How do you incorporate a Polish groom, a Japanese bride, their family and friend into an Australian wedding?
(Peace fingers!)
For starters, the service was at a Polish Catholic church, in English and Polish.
At one stage all five Japanese girls were snapping away.
The bridesmaids wore Kimonos.
(Then the Polish relatives feed the guests up on cakes.)
The you head up to the top of red hill to On Red, with its gorgeous view of Canberra, provide Sake on the table, serve Polish vodka through the night, do all the speeches in English and Japanese. Oh and serve New Zealand wine. Cos that’s the Australian thing to do ;) (Australia loves its Marlborough Sav Blancs)
The invitation for Rish’s brother’s wedding came this morning, complete with butterflies, ribbons, and a “dress formal – black tie” note after the RSVP information.
I’m told each invitation is different, and saw some of the photos of them last weekend.
I still have to figure out what to wear to the wedding I’m going to tomorrow before I can worry about this one!
There’s still so much fruit in our fridge from the weekend. Making my way through it, bananas aren’t looking so happy, especially the one that’s been on my desk since Monday, thinking about being eaten…
I’ve never been one for mushy, so had no concerns that the weekend was spent with Rish’s mum visiting and me heading to Uni for 8 hours on Sunday.
Yes, I’m furthering my education instead of pushing out kids. *K-Rudd looks on in horror*. Maybe in 4 years when we’re ready for a kidlet, we might have a leader of the country (or even the opposition) that is not a middle-aged, conservative, white, Christian male? Bring on the Greens, bring back the Democrats, bring on Fiona Pattern’s Australian Sex Party. Something. Oh, and bring on the republic.
*ahem*
The cool weather and rain on the weekend, meant that an 8am Sunday start at uni needed a coffee and tights. I think Autumn is coming, with cool mornings, but still warm days this week
We also managed to eat our first home-grown tomato! Baby-steps!
We may have a little victory in the search for a cane sugar-free, dairy free chocolate that doesn’t have a laxative effect or taste like ew.
Loving Earth produce a range of raw chocolate bars that are dairy-free dark chocolate and sweetened with Agave syrup. They’re vegan and also gluten free. Oh and fair trade cocao, but made in Australia. Sweet.
I shared an almond bar with my workmates this afternoon, who all approved, and were also happy for me ;) I’ll try the others at some point (I have the lucoma and maca one to take to my eight hours of uni on Sunday. I think I’ll need it!) but even if there’s only one awesome flavour, it’s a great start!
(available online, or from various health food stores in Australia, NZ, Malaysia, Japan and Israel, apparently!)
The LINCS speech pathology project – looking at best service delivery models for High Schoolers with language impairment. Hoping to see her present at the conference.
Uni! Get to do a mini research project this year… topics swirling around, but it might be to do with Adolescent language or perhaps the special school population. We’ll see!
Me 5 years ago at the first national conference I went to. It was here in Canberra, I was a student volunteer, which means I helped out but got free registration. We made tiaras for the dinner. It helped get me this job!
I’ve not been exactly creative with my lunches since the start of Feb (and Febusave) but I’ve been happy with the results:
I’m such a tuna girl. My mum will attest that I used to live on it. Today I had some avocado (a quarter on dietitian’s advice – keeping it yummy but not too much fat), some leftover mushrooms, the tomato was bought it a kilo bag, and the tuna in a huge box. Bargain. (Lack of feta cheese in there… boo!)
It would be even better if I had home grown tomatoes, but I’m not quite up to that as you can see:
My first tomato is nearly ripe, while the second one is only just sprouting. One day! :)
