Back in November, you may recall a little Ant Problem we had. ie, they wanted to eat Rish’s toothbrush…
That was explained away by Colgate as them perhaps after the residue of toothpaste…
But that won’t explain this:
Yes, you see right, the ants have found their way into to NEW pack, as if seeking it out… weird ants with a craving for rubber. (yes the pack was opened with a couple of brushes out, but really, ants?)
I will let you know what Colgate have to say on this one!
Gotta love that Rotary still do chocolate wheels at the local shopping centre. I think this is $2 well spent!
(only difficulty was that I walked and had to carry it home, but like the Rotary gentleman told me I’m “young and strong”)
Now, what to make with it all? There’s some definite pointers towards soup with the carrots, celery, onion, pumpkin etc. But there may be some other options that don’t immediately strike me.
How much better is fresh-home-made awesomeness than something out of a jar? I used to hate sweet and sour pork/chicken, but then my only experiences had been of slimy carrot and pineapple out of an over-sugared Kantong or Chicken Tonight jar (than I used to sit at home til 11pm for Rish to get back from shelf-stacking as an undergrad because I couldn’t open the jar, I was that weak) or over-sugared over-priced takeaway. So, Rish branched out last night (showing how much he loves me) by substituting his regular delicious white besamel sauce with a dairy-free substitute for me, found in the Golden Door cookbook.
He added cheese into half of the sauce to layer in on his side, and topped his side with cheese. Of course my half wasn’t quite as awesome as a regular lasange, but he was happy with his half (plus with how health and EASY the white sauce was) and I was happy to have lasagne that either didn’t make me nervous while eating it, or make me feel crappy later. Please ignore my bad plating skills, and focus on the Mediterranean roast vege bake from the CSIRO cook book, the Cacciatore made using Rish’s grandmother’s recipe and the end of the box of cous cous. A wonderful mid-week meal.
(and even better as leftovers reheated the next night. Rish used quinoa in place of cous cous the next time he had it)
In my list of recommendations from my most recent visit to the GP (along with a coeliac blood test and Buscopan) was to increase the fibre in my diet, and apparently this Digestive 1st cereal was the way to do it.
My doctor couldn’t remember the name of it at the time, just said it was from CSIRO and that it would have much more fibre than the regular muesli I eat. Oh and that if I do have coeliac disease it would probably make me feel worse.
I googled it from my phone, and bought it from Woolies.
I have to say, it’s very sweet (I’m used to the raw oats of untoasted muesli), and I had to get used to it being toasted. I would eat it if I need it, but I think I’d prefer my untoasted for taste and texture reasons. But if you’re a toasted muesli fan, you should probably give it a try. Or the Protein 1st or Heart 1st if that’s what you need!
Well, my last lot of blood tests have shown nothing abnormal, so the next round will be upon me soon. Not that I could get an appointment until April 9… But I do have newly discovered friends in Buscopan and the Career’s Cow:
Our olive oil is bought in massive 20L tins, so we needed something more manageable to decant it into. Fortunately, Rish came across this Kinky brand of rum. We used it at the cocktail party last year, and now use it for our olive oil :)
Olive oil of course being essential for a home made pizza night with friends. From the bases, to the marinade on the roo meat, to the salad dressing.
