Malaysia Airlines 747 by mattingham
Malaysia Airlines 747 by mattingham.

Just on a month until Rish and I fly out to Germany… 25 days away, planning to visit Vienna also, and will spend a few days in Malaysia on the way home, you know, to eat and to see his extended family, oh and to take advantage of having a free Stopover there with Malaysia Airlines (MH122 and MH6 there, MH123 and MH5 on return, for my airline nerdlings ;).

I trust that the backlog of volcano passengers will be cleared and we won’t have to deal with them (or have full planes, I hope not!). Of course, I bought my travel insurance as soon as our flights were paid for! Can’t leave home without that! Still have a few things to sort out, but getting there.

Still unsure of my plans for my time there… Trains will be in order.

Any tips for places between Frankfurt and Vienna that I must go?

Ta! :)

Turning of the Leaves

April 27, 2010 · 0 comments

Red Autumn

I love Autumn in Canberra. I love the seasons here. No, I don’t really care for the sub-zero mornings of winter, but I love how pretty they are. I love how we have a real turn of the leave here, not something I had in Newcastle.

It’s beautiful.

Things

April 26, 2010 · 0 comments

Things creep up on my. Days, weeks, months, birthdays.

Tizzy
My dear, old, awesome cat Tizzy, on his perch at my parents place in Newcastle. He’s always been a big boy.

And also kilos. (kilos, centimetres, increase in fat with loss of muscle. All are true!)

Just a few here and there, but enough to mean I’m back into the overweight category, and that dressing to head out on Saturday night became a teary affair, where I realised that most of my going out clothes didn’t fit, or were all lumpy and bumpy in all the ‘wrong’ places.

It’s a mix of not eating right, not exercising enough, getting sick and so not being well enough to exercise. Etc etc.

Basically this means a couple of things.

I have to get more serious about my effort at the gym. That started last night, with Rish kicking my arse with sprints on the oval followed by an upper body weights session at the gym. It all hurts.

I will also have to go back to writing down what I eat. And be honest with it. This also will have the advantage of helping me figure out which foods make me feel like crap, along with helping me identify my snacking ;)

On discussion with my doctor, it appears I don’t have any specific intolerances/coeliac disease etc etc, but, as some of you told me, irritable bowel syndrome. So, writing things down and figuring all that out will surely help me feel better. :)

I’m not one to go on about weight/weight loss. I like food too much, and so the prospect of upping my gym efforts always appeals more than eating less. But so long as I stay healthy, that should stay reasonably easy. I also have always felt weird talking about wanting to lose a few centimetres in oder to feel better in my skin. Oh well, more butt kickings both by Rish and by myself shall help!

ps Where did April go?

Marcel and Liz's Wedding
The Groom’s Buttonhole Flower

Sitting in the uni library, piecing together information about inclusion in the early and middle years of schooling, I think I’m about to get some feedback on an assignment I completed, and it always just makes me anxious. Feeling that unsettled stomach, slightly quickened breathing, wanting to know and not wanting to know. Knowing that maybe that assignment wasn’t as good as it could have been, but then I’ll just have to blitz the final part.

I’m sitting on another credit and distinction of my two subjects again this semester. I was around that level in my undergrad, with my practical and orally assessed subjects pulling more towards passes, and my linguistics and electives (hell yeah, I did ‘Cyberculture’ as an elective towards my Speech Pathology degree) giving me Distinctions and the occasional High D.

I go through phases of intense motivation and then lulls. The lulls tend to coincide with illness, or busy work schedules. Unfortunately, there are ofter due dates then too! ;)

I can do this.

Darby Street Eats

April 22, 2010 · 0 comments

Even when I’m only in Newcastle for a short stay, I tend to have a few meals on Darby Street :)

3 Monkeys, Darby St
Fruit salad with almond cous cous for breakfast from 3 Monkeys

It’s been awhile since I’m been to 3 Monkeys, mostly because I’ve had quite bad service there in the past. But I was impressed with this different breakfast. I don’t think I’ve had cous cous for breakfast before! and the grapes were awesome :) Good to have for breakky after dancing til three on my blistered feet after the wedding!

Little Flurries

April 20, 2010 · 0 comments

burning bright :)

It’s probably not weird, to get flurries of inspiration, maybe to tidy something, to do some uni work, dance and sing, take photos, works on the blog, save for something, make new goals, move towards them.

Sometimes it goes somewhere. Some days it lasts all of 3 minutes :p

Full on weekend for Rish’s brother’s wedding – I’ll get to the pics and the posts when I get a chance!

But just quickly, I wanted to write up a post for the first week of Noice-ities

If skill/talent was no object, what do you want to make?

I know it’s meant to be a craft answer, but how can I go past making beautiful cupcakes, like the ones Naomi made for the wedding, and the billions of other awesome ones she’s got photos up on on her Flickr Stream?

This is from the dessert table she did for the engagement party last yer. Completely awesome! And something I’ll never be skilled enough to do ;)

Naomi’s cupcake business is Hello Naomi, and she also is involved with scissors.paper.cake, a party-styling business. Enjoy! :)

Chicken burger and chips

I was defeated by this at lunch today. Gorgeous marinated chicken burger from the cafe downstairs at the Uni of Canberra. HEAPS of crunchy chips, could have done with more salad. The aoli was a fluffy fresh thing (the thing that looks like melted cheese) that wasn’t too creamy. Got through maybe half the chips, and left the top of the bun. Yummable.

And who is keeping me company while Rish is away? :)

Who I'm sleeping with tonight

My dear old Woof. Woof and I go way back, to my first Christmas, in 1982. Love.

(he has cataracts, poor thing. I need to colour in his pupils again with permanent marker soon)

(Mutterings week 376)

Currently bopping along to the Evelyn Evelyn album, downloaded from their Bandcamp page. You can pre-listen there too. It’s a new Amanda Palmer project… :D Sitting in the UC library… accidentally bought real coke… disaster. Don’t want it, it can come home with me until I find someone to drink it for me.

Volunteers?

My voice is coming back. Slowly. Have tomorrow off work, it’s been good for it, and me, not talking to many people at all. One more day of that (and hopefully not coughing all night like I did a lot of last night) and I may feel better. xx
