Happy Mondays

February 28, 2011 · 4 comments

At least a happy Monday afternoon. Debriefed about work with colleagues, went to the gym, and received some goodies in the post:

Gluten Free Goodies
Box of 6 packets of awesome from Melinda’s Gluten-Free Goodies :) Looking forward to making these up over the coming weeks!

Free tickets!
Double pass to Inside Job, I think I got this via Cinetology. Will have to find a night to see it :)

Awesome lilies
And my flowers have opened up nicely. Also on that table you can see my bridesmaid bouquet from my sister’s wedding, and a photo from our year 12 formal. So young and pale. And skinny! ;)

How was your Monday?

After a much needed run, and a short but tough gym session with Rish (Bench Presses and Leg Presses *dies*) went past the supermarket to gather the ingredient to make Lisa’s 6 Cs Curry… except I made it with chicken for extra protein-y goodness, and no cauliflower because there was only one which looked a little sad :(

Meddled slightly with the quantities also – upped the spices and coconut milk, along with the amount of chickpeas and an extra carrot. Just to get it to last longer.

6 Cs curry

Gotta keep this up – it was a good run today, my pace was much better than a week ago. The cool weather and relaxing day before it helped a fair bit, as did having lots of nervous energy to burn ;) In training so I can make it round the loop twice for the Mothers Day Classic 10km in May. 2 months to go – I can do it!! (Wanna Sponsor Me?)

6 Cs curry

What are your ideal running conditions?

The Atheist Foundation of Australia (AFA) launched a new website designed to encourage individuals and families to think about the importance and impact of their answer to the Census question: “What is the person’s religion?”

This campaign is part of a wider education and communication campaign being run by the Atheist Foundation of Australia that draws attention to the fact that the wording of this question means many people will select the religion of their baptism or initiation at youth, despite not being a religious person at all.

This website — www.CensusNoReligion.org — has been designed as a resource for interested Australians in the lead up to the next Australian Census being held on 9 August 2011. It gives people information about how the results of this question can be misused to allocate funds, overstate the number of actively religious people in Australia, and exaggerate the importance of religion in modern Australia.

AFA President David Nicholls said, “Data from the Census is used by parliamentarians and religious leaders to sway politics and social policy in favour of complying with religious tenets and ecclesiastical notions. In fact in many cases, it makes a situation where a decision that should rely on empirical evidence is overridden by religious demands.

“The coming Census in Australia is an important chance to make sure your interests are met in decision making and funding and that views you do not hold are not over-represented in the coming years,” Nicholls said. “I encourage everyone to visit the website and make sure they are informed of the implications of their answers, and if you are not religious now to mark ‘No religion’ on August 9.”

For more information go to: www.CensusNoReligion.org

It seems simple enough, right? If you’re not religious, mark “no religion”…

Oh and not “jedi”.

So, my dear, you all want to hear the story behind why I arrived home on Thursday to Flowers from Crust Pizza?

As happens in the blogging world, arrangements are made at times for bloggers to try things, in the hope that they’ll like them and blog about how awesome they are.

This was the challenge for Crust, when their PR company accepted my challenge that a pizza could still be awesome when on a gluten free base, and without the mozzarella… (I, of course, then select a vegetarian pizza on top of that – but have feta, because it rocks and I’ve decided that I’m eating it regardless)

Crust Pizza

But why is the pizza reheated? And so crispy?

Well… the problem with getting PR to order, via the main office, then getting it delivered by the local franchise… is well, sometimes payments are miscommunicated, and Fiona and the pizza boy spend 20 minutes on the porch trying to sort it out, while Fiona almost cries in her panicky anxious everything always goes wrong way.

But it sorts out. PR company works their charms.

And the pizza was nice. Liked the pumpkin sauce. And the toppings. Will steal that idea for my home made pizzas!

Not sold on the base yet – probably because it was singed black by the time we ate it? Maybe next time my pizza will be hot from the box.

2 days later, I get home… to flowers on the doorstep!

Flowers from Crust Pizza

Who are they from? Usually it’s my parents or Rish’s parents (or various lovers, of course)…

Flowers from Crust Pizza

aww. They made me smile.

(shame I’m currently without a vase, and they’re living in a cereal server Decor box! oh well!)

Friday Fun

February 25, 2011 · 6 comments

This was a week in which:

  • I ate my first Gluten Free Crust pizza. There is good and bad in that story. More to come. They sent me flowers.
  • People wondered where in Canberra you could buy scungies. And whether Zooper Doopers were gluten free. I love Google for sending you people my way
  • I hit my head on a cupboard and got a bruise.
  • I sort of caught up on some work and got more behind and stressed about other parts
  • I’d like to have slept more

How was your week?

When I was little

February 23, 2011 · 4 comments

I cried in Kindy when I had to stay home sick because I was worried about getting behind in my work.

I still stress about taking sick days, knowing there will be more to do when I get back.

But then, I’m not working as well if I’m there when I’m feeling crap.

So I might as well say home.

And not get others sick.

That’s the theory.

Anyway.

Donate Life – Organ Donation Week

February 23, 2011

Are you an organ donor? Did you know you now register through Medicare or the Donate Life site, rather than ticking it on your licence? Have you told your family your wishes? I mean, really told them, so there isn’t a bedside fight when it matters most? Yes, I’m registered. And if my organs are [...]

Orgran Gluten Free Wholemeal Breadmix fresh from my Breadmaker!

February 22, 2011

I like that the wholemeal turned out as well as the white, as I’d much rather eat something with a little more fibre. Great toasted, with avocado and tomato on top for lunch :)

Lime and Chili Calamari Salad

February 21, 2011

We were going to make our own calamari, however Woolies were out if the fresh stuff, so we got a pack of De Costi chili and lime calamari and built a salad around it. Light and yum! And not too stingy on my mouth ulcers…)
