The tale of a Gluten Free Crust Pizza, a cereal container and some flowers that made me smile

So, my dear, you all want to hear the story behind why I arrived home on Thursday to Flowers from Crust Pizza?

As happens in the blogging world, arrangements are made at times for bloggers to try things, in the hope that they’ll like them and blog about how awesome they are.

This was the challenge for Crust, when their PR company accepted my challenge that a pizza could still be awesome when on a gluten free base, and without the mozzarella… (I, of course, then select a vegetarian pizza on top of that – but have feta, because it rocks and I’ve decided that I’m eating it regardless)

But why is the pizza reheated? And so crispy?

Well… the problem with getting PR to order, via the main office, then getting it delivered by the local franchise… is well, sometimes payments are miscommunicated, and Fiona and the pizza boy spend 20 minutes on the porch trying to sort it out, while Fiona almost cries in her panicky anxious everything always goes wrong way.

But it sorts out. PR company works their charms.

And the pizza was nice. Liked the pumpkin sauce. And the toppings. Will steal that idea for my home made pizzas!

Not sold on the base yet – probably because it was singed black by the time we ate it? Maybe next time my pizza will be hot from the box.

2 days later, I get home… to flowers on the doorstep!

Flowers from Crust Pizza

Who are they from? Usually it’s my parents or Rish’s parents (or various lovers, of course)…

Flowers from Crust Pizza

aww. They made me smile.

(shame I’m currently without a vase, and they’re living in a cereal server Decor box! oh well!)

Aww, that was quite nice of them! I’m actually very curious about trying gluten-free pizza, but that hasn’t caught on in the third world yet.

Well done Crust for showing you some PR-lovin’ after their mistake! And well done to you for adding feta. It is awesome, and a little can go a long way, yay! (I have some goat feta in the fridge right now, actually!)

    I can’t remember the last time I ate pizza…

I order vegetarian pizzas with feta instead of mozzarella as well. Good to know I’m not the only one.

I can’t handle that much cheese, and the flavour is much nicer.

We’ve made gluten free pizza base using the Simple bread mix and it’s quite nice. It makes a somewhat hard and crispy base, which is different than our usual fluffy base, but that’s not a bad thing.

now that is some awesome customer service!

But did they comp you another pizza so you could actually try it hot?

    • February 27, 2011 at 1:54 pm

      Not yet they didn’t ;)

CLEARLY you need to start yelling at someone…

(tried to reply in the nested comments but my stupidarsed computer won’t let me)

Glad to hear that Crust takes their customers seriously, and especially that they gave you the nice flowers. Braddon store certainly had me not coming back…(sigh). But at least (unlike Domino’s) they were willing to listen to what I had to say about their cross-contamination concerns though!

    • April 27, 2011 at 11:20 am

      :( Sorry to hear that.

Have you been to Grill’d? Irritates me that they go to the effort of having all the gluten free buns etc and then blatently state that they use the same toasters. Not a concern for me, but for others I’m sure it can be!

      • April 27, 2011 at 3:50 pm

Yes I have been to Grill’d and it’s such a shame, as the gluten free buns and burgers were actually really delicious the other day when I tried them, as were the herbed chips. Though I have complained to their Head Office and posted on the matter as I was so annoyed about them not even caring to use protective heatproof lining materials, toastabags, etc., etc.

I also don’t like how they exploit it on the menu (to the general public), like you say. Certainly not a place I’ll frequent anyhow.

        • April 27, 2011 at 5:56 pm

Yeah, at least Ali Baba give it a go trying not to cross contaminate – always with a paper down, new tongs. Would watch getting homous on it though if you’re highly sensitive with the spoonage.

What do you think?
