Yeah! Baby Octopus FTW nomnomnom
Had some friends over the other week for a Steamboat. And a few bottle of wine. And plenty of chatter. Always good fun :)

Prawn Crackers to nibble on to start while we got the coals heating

Burn, baby, burn

Array of seafood, meat, noodles, veges and tofu

Going fishing!
And the wines:

2008 Side Gate Riesling

Clonakilla 2009 Hilltops Shiraz

The Rose Hill Durif we picked up in Victoria.
Such a social way to have a meal!

I’m excited about tights weather, aren’t you? As we come to the colder months I get to start digging out my tights collection while those of you in the northern hemisphere are buying new spring clothing… I think I might have the better end there!

I was a little sad this morning though, so many of last year’s tights have holes in them, or just aren’t in great condition… I put it to twitter whether it would be a good idea to ask for paypal donations for my tights fund (I’m still open to it, though it may attract a new kind of reader if I promise to post pics of them in action in return) but it didn’t seem popular. Seems I might have to just budget to have a little set aside for tights (unless Myer or Westfield wants to have a tights blog ambassador for Winter 2011? :p)
So, suggestions of course are welcome, both for ways to save money (such as cutting back on takeaway coffees) or to get Levante to make me their blog-girl ;)
*adds a few pairs to her Amazon Wishlist for good measure*

Yums! And easy to make :) All I had to do was beat two eggs, mix in some oil (I used out rather than bothering about melting margerine or whatever) and mix and cook. Shame I haven’t got used to this oven yet, a little dark in parts…

As for the Brownies, well they went down very well :) Made them up to take away the other weekend to the coast.

A little tricker to make with the chocolate melting, but worth it. Still, can’t eat too much of either, too much sugar for my tummy still :(

Anyone going to the Gluten free expo on Saturday at the Woden Southern Cross Club?
These packet mixes were sent to me to try by Melinda’s Gluten Free Goodies. I know you can buy some of the range at Woolies, and I’m sure other places.

Every Australian Counts is the campaign for the introduction of a National Disability Insurance Scheme. The NDIS will revolutionise the way people with a disability, their families and carers are supported in this country.
The NDIS will be a new support system for people with a disability, their families and carers. It will transform the way services are funded and delivered, ensuring people are better supported and enabling them to have greater choice and control.
Over the next few months the Productivity Commission will report to the Government on the findings of its inquiry into a long-term disability care and support scheme.
We need every Australian to stand up and say that people with a disability, their families and carers in this country deserve better and that it’s time for change. We need every Australian to say that people with a disability, their families and carers are Australians too, and that their hopes and dreams count. That they are part of our community, and that they count.
We need to show the government that there is widespread community support for change – and that the time for action has come.
On the pages of this website you can find out how the NDIS will help people with disabilities at home and at work, and the ways it will help children, families and students.
You can support the campaign, by taking action to make every Australian count.

Scope Mount Stromlo recently opened in the grounds of the Mount Stromlo Observatory. While my parents were visiting over the weekend, I took them up there for breakfast.

(Bring your woolies if you’re going to sit out on the balcony! Or ride up, like most of the lycra-clad partons on Saturday morning did)
From the website:
The café is set in an architecturally designed, award-winning building with comfortable and eclectic styling. The eating area is framed by floor to ceiling glass and a large balcony, which provides 180-degree views of the Murrumbidgee Corridor of the Brindabella Ranges. Just outside are the mammoth remains of the telescopic domes of the Observatory that make a spectacular backdrop for breathtaking sunsets almost every day of the year.

Can you spot a roo?

Soy latte, $3.80
I start with my usual soy latte – and awesomely don’t have to pay extra for soy (or decaf if that’s you’re thing!)

My parents both ordered the “Big Ben” a HUGE Eggs Benedict with bacon and sourdough from Flute Bakery. There’s a layer of bacon between the sourdough slices!

Needless to say, Mum didn’t need lunch til quite late!
I got them to put together an eggless breakky ;) Bacon, roast tomato and gluten free bread. Yum :) Should have asked if they had avocado though, it would have topped it off.

I think a nice addition to their breakfast menu would have been some sort of fruit salad, I’m sure of of the cycling crew might agree :) But they were happy to alter the combinations that morning for me.

Colours!

(I’m looking forward to them sorting out their liquor licence so I can drag my workmates up there for Friday drinks! They’re planning to open late on a Friday and get some telescopes out too! They want everyone up the hill by 8pm, but if things are kicking on, then I don’t see you getting kicked out)
