Off The Beaten Path: Easy Ways To Make Your Vacation A Little More Unique
There are few things more exciting than travelling to a new place and getting to experience that strange, unfamiliar excitement. Being able to find new places and experience things that you’d never otherwise have a chance to. However, for a lot of people, it can start to feel as though you’re doing the same things over and over again. Even when you go to a new place, it can get a little bit boring if you’re only ever doing the same, basic tourist things every time. With that in mind, here are a few simple things that you might want to try in order to go off the beaten path and make your vacation just a little bit more unique.
Find new ways to get around
When it comes to getting around on vacation, there are plenty of options, but a lot of people rely on either renting a car or getting something like an Uber to drive them around. But why not try something a bit different. Why not hop on a local bus and see where it takes you? Or, if you’re by the sea and you wanted to try something particularly fun you could always hire a boat and explore the coast that way. Finding new ways to get around can often totally change the way that you experience a place, even somewhere that you’ve been before multiple times.
Put away the map
You can always tell the tourist by the map that they’re carrying all of the time. Sure, we’ve replaced giant fold-out paper maps with our smartphones, but the basic idea is still the same. Instead, why not ditch the map for a little while? Say you’re walking around a city, you’re not sure what to do, and you want to find something a little more unusual and surprising. If that’s the case, then one of the best things that you can do is just to get a little bit lost. Wander around for a while, let your feet guide you. Sure, you might not find much of interest, but you might also come across something truly strange and remarkable. Most places have a few hidden gems tucked away here and there.
Ask the locals
Of course, if you really want a flavour of what a place is like, the guidebook isn’t going to help you. All a guidebook can do is show you the kinds of places that tourists go already. If you want a really authentic experience then why not just ask the locals? Most people are pretty friendly and (provided you both speak the same language) are often willing to help you get the most out of your trip. If you’re really lucky, you might even get a guided tour.
Of course, it’s important to remember that there’s nothing wrong with wanting something a little bit more familiar. After it’s your vacation and if you want something more comfortable then that’s totally fine. However, it’s nice to be able to have the option to take the road less travelled just in case the desire should take you at some point during your vacation.
