Vacations are the highlight of anyone’s year, right? And, if you’re in the habit, you won’t want to put it off for anything. Not even the baby bump that graces you for nine months when you’re pregnant. After all, this will be your last chance to go away and kick back. It’s understandable you wouldn’t want to give that up!
The good news is, there’s nothing to stop you going on vacation during pregnancy. As long as you don’t go when you’re due to pop, of course. In fact, the relaxing nature of a holiday can work wonders for pregnancy. The more chilled you are, the better it is for the baby, after all.
That said, it would be naive to assume that a pregnant vacation is all plain sailing. There are some steps you need to take to ensure things run smoothly. And, we’re going to look at them here.
Talk to your doctor or midwife
Before anything, you should take the time to talk to your doctor or midwife. Tell them what you’re planning and get their honest opinion about whether it’s safe. They’ll be able to do checks on baby and you, and let you know whether you’d be risking anything by going away. They’ll also be able to inform you if you’re too late to be leaving home. They can also develop coping mechanisms and plans for if anything does happen when you’re far from home.
Consider staying close to home
If your doctor’s uncertain about the safety of flying, you could always consider a staycation instead. If you’re facing problems in your pregnancy, flying might be too much of a risk. But, that doesn’t mean you have to miss out. You could always drive to a part of the country you’ve never been to before. It’ll feel like a holiday, but without the stress of getting on a plane pregnant!
No matter where you’re going, it’s essential you pack wisely. Your comfort should be at the forefront of your mind. As such, you might need to pack extra pillows or other forms of support. You can forget about those high heels, too. Take comfortable shoes which ease your ankles. It’s also worth stocking up on some new maternity wear from companies like Peekaboo Baby. That way, you can ensure you’ve got a sunny day wardrobe which will fit your new figure.
Take it easy
We all vacation in different ways. Some of us love to laze by the pool, while others embrace every task with gusto. If you’re in the latter group, you’re probably used to being pretty busy when you go away. But, you can forget that this time around. Leave the jet skis for a future vacation. For now, keep in mind that you need to stay safe and calm at all times. If sitting on sun loungers doesn’t appeal, settle for strolling around local villages and enjoying the sights. The fast-paced stuff just won’t serve you well in your condition!
