blogging

So.

I own the domain RishniRatnam.com, and I host my bother in law at http://www.johndee.net.au/….

But of most interest to most of you…..

I now have my sister blogging. At http://gatheringpieces.littlelioness.net/

Visit her.

Tell her she is awesome. Cos she is.

Because I want there to be a place for parents with kids with Spondylmetaphyseal Dysplasia to find each other. Even if just to look at each other and realise that there are other who have no idea how this will all turn out for them.

For a community.

For Jennie. And John. And Liam. And Ezri.

And the rest.

Daisy

I read a lot of blogs.

Some are gorgeously superficial. Pretty, sparkly nail polish, or cupcakes that, while I can’t eat them, look awesome.

Others are deep.

Discussion of emotions, physical and mental pain.

And while I love those people.

I just sometimes can’t read that stuff.

For my own sake.

So I step back. And stick with the pretty flowers for a while.

So, the wonderful Lizosaurus has brought out a (cheap $5!!) ebook entitled “From Noob to Jaded: A tongue in cheek guide to Australian blogging.”.

(yeah, stole that picture from Liz, but this is kinda crediting it right if I tell people to go give her money for a pdf?)

You’re welcome.

I look forward to finding a printer so that I can play the board game with my IRL friends. Hellyes. <3

(ooh here’s the post where I declare my love of Liz. Love.)

Today I went to the Bloggers Brunch. targeted at Mummy Bloggers, I still went along, to schmooze with the companies and to see what was what in te blogosphere for parents. I nabbed the above products for my efforts. Oh and a glass off wine. And fruit.

While my fave goodies of the day were the stuff from the Lego Friends (aka girly) range, I couldn’t help but think back and realise I didn’t have girly lego. And I loved it.

Maybe I’m contradictory and going to screw up my offspring, but I love the idea of not needed BOY toys and GIRL toys. My niece has a Lamaze tool set to chew on. And I think that’s awesome. I don’t think I’d go this far, but if have a daughter, she will share my love of cricket and trains.

There’s nothing wrong with me, right? ;)

Digital Parents Unplugged at Kin n Kaboodle Supper Club

Headed into the Cross on Friday night to meet a bunch of “mummy bloggers” for an evening of meeting, greeting and schmoozing at Kit & Kaboodle for Digital Parents Unplugged.

Digital Parents Unplugged at Kin n Kaboodle Supper Club

My pitch to the PRs – I’m not a mummy, I’m more of an Aunty. Oh and my business cards match my tights.

It was lovely to meet everyone there :) Especially Madam Bipolar who got stuck into the sushi up the back with me ;)

Admittedly, I don’t have the attention span for the talks at these things, but oh well!

Oooh sparkles!

The plan is to save my pennies to head to Melbourne for the conference. You know, for the people. Though this conference looks reasonably interesting content wise. Anyone want to sponsor me? I’ll totally wear your tshirt and babble about you on the blog for an air fare or a 4 star+ room ;)

Since I upgraded to the latest version of Akismet, it’s been working in overdrive! Maybe it’s the season, like getting waaaaay more junk mail, but the spammers have having fun, but fortunately, going through to spam.

UN-fortunately, a few of you have been sent into the spam filter. I know I’ve fished Veronica out of there recently. At least she was easy to find.

Why was she easy to find? Her little Gravatar next to her comment helped me when skimming the spam comments to see if there was anyone real in there. I love Gravatars, helps in getting that little bit more personality across – for those of you who are all for blog branding and crap stuff like that, you can carry it over more easily onto other people’s blogs. It also gets picked up by some forums and other sites when the manager is cluey enough to use a plugin for it. Beats uploading an icon each time!

So, I would suggest you get a Gravatar so I’m less likely to lose you if you accidentally fall into my spam folder!

Want you show yours off by commenting now?

Back Again…

November 10, 2007 · 10 comments

Entering the scaring world of blogs, approximately 2 years after any reliable form of internet access was taken from me in my move to Canberra.

But, we reconnected recently – Virgin Broadband rocks!

Right now, I’m trying to get a handle on what wordpress is now capable of in this new age – playing with plugins and so forth – does anyone have any favourite plugins that I absolutely must utitlise?

It’s good to be back!
