Went for a late lunch /slash afternoon tea with the family for my birthday. Cupcakes and babycinos for the kids, cake and coffee for my Mum and sister, and meals for B and I because I couldn’t face cake, and hadn’t had lunch…
My awesome chicken burger – $18
The insides – chicken, tomato, cheese, lettuce, aioli, avocado
Bruce’s eggs benedict and slushy

One thing about being a food blogger, and it being your birthday this week, is that you can easily talk your friendship group into gorging them self on dumplings in the interest of trying the new dumpling house in town.
We ate SOOOOOOO many dumplings over a two hour period.
Pork, vego, crab, chicken. Different shapes and sizes.
And wound up with a bill under $14/head.
With a dash of rice for variety.
And THEN for some reason, we were talked into utilising our dessert stomachs for coffee and cake at Cafe de Beaumont
Yeah, I rolled to the car.
But I’m SOOOOOOOO glad for good cheap dumplings in Newcastle!!!
(and that they dealt well with my useless booking skills and constantly expanding table!)

I actually don’t have too many photos from my birthday celebrations, as I had a number of late nights, where my phone battery died before meal or home time. I can say it’a been a lovely week of turning 31, and surrounding myself with people who are awesomeness.
Let’s start with a couple of days before, my dear chronically Femme Bronwyn was selling her Galaxy Tab….. and since I couldn’t find a reason not to (aside from my current financial situation) I bought it from her. She offered me Gin and Tonic, and a pillow unicorn as sweeteners to the deal…
Couple of days before my birthday, I had some plans fall through, so ended up watching Seven Psychopaths with Mic, and going out for a lovely brekkie at Chaddies in New Lambton Sunday morning.
Next was the Newtown Drinks version of my birthday – Drinks on the roof at Zanzibar, till it got too cold and we had to shift inside to the deer hunter room with the pool tables.
Somewhere in there, Neko started reading to us, and demanding we head for Thai for dinner.
I did question where one was to actually find a Thai restaurant in Newtown, because there is NOWHERE to get Thai, or frozen yoghurt for that matter, on King Street ;)
Six of us ended up at Newtown Thai, selected the basis of them being quiet and wouldn’t mind us stuffing around while we waited for a couple of extra, but delightful, boys to show up ;)
Next stop, the Marly (Marlborough) which has this weird indoor garden, complete with fake grass, remodel thing going on. The above nachos made with hot chips were consumed, and hugs and smiles exchanged.
Sleep was found,a nd my birthday breakfast of a meat pie and diet coke found around midday at Macquarie University train station.
Sadly, i left the gift of a Hello Kitty shower cap behind in Macquarie Park, but my habit of leaving things behind just means I need to find time to see people again :)
Where next? Off to Hippo to have coffee and cake with my family and with Bron. The kids ran around like crazy, I got more hello kitty gifts…
Including some of the VERY newly released Hello Kitty for Target underwear!!!
From there, it was off to Schnitzel night at the Warners Bay Hotel…. mine had Nachos!
Aside from that, there’s been bikkies from my boss, and <3 arm warmers from Stu... and well as many hugs and general awesomness.
Thank you to everyone who made turning 31 utterly awesome. xoxox
So, I was sent a few packs of the Queen Soft Sugar Pearls to try out, because I am such an avid baker. Plus I love the idea of silver balls that won’t break a tooth. Think of them as Cachous, but they don’t have to be swallowed whole :p
Having a few to eat on their own, they were soft (but not too sof), and kinda had the texture of jelly crystals eated from the packet, if you put too many in their at once. The rainbow ones also smell a lot like rainbow sugary popcorn, the sort that used to come in a carrot shape packet at the fete.
Blurry shot. I love Basco packet mixes. They always work out well for me.
Improvising. I have no bowl or electric mixer. Bowls are pots and containers. etc.
See? Awesome Basco mixes.
Yay! They also have white, baby pink, baby blue, gold and silver. But the rainbow is best, right?
A family birthday dinner in a Malaysian Chinese Restaurant in the suburb of Redhead. Seaview Malaysian was able to adjust our meals so all dishes were gluten free, and boy we were stuffed by the end of it!
Prawn Toast (not GF)
Chicken and Sweet Corn Soup
Sang Choi Bao type Lettuce Wraps. This was my entree and it was awesome :D :D
So, Rish and I were starting to admit defeat after the entrees (I had only really had lunch at about 5pm too), but somehow, as the soft shell crab came out (no photos – way too yum in the salt and peppere gluten free batter!), and then the other dishes started to arrive we made an effort :p
(photos not included include the noodles, fried rice, honey chicken, tomato braised beef and probably one more dish!)
Sweet and Sour pork was … sweet.
Amazing lemon chicken. Nice tender chicken pieces, great sauce. I could have eaten this all myself!
My order. Veges and tofu
There was room for cake, or in Rish’s case, Deep fried ice cream! He can never say no!
