I discovered Talk Fresh via my local cafe, Custom Espresso, getting their fruit and vegetable deliveries from this Sangate based small business.
They put together their fruit and vege boxes (From $35) based on what is in season, so everything in the box is top quality! You can also add extras or choose your own fruit and vegetables from their huge product list. Delivery is free!
So we ate a lot of fresh fruit and veges the past fortnight.
So excited to open my box and check out the ingredients!!
I ordered a HelloFresh box because I found a good deal online and really wanted to try it. I love the idea of things like Lite’n’Easy, but I like to cook too much to hand over my evening meal to something pre-prepared or – worse – frozen! I like a Lean Cuisine for lunch, but I can’t do them for dinner!
The ingredients were awesome and fresh… with just the right amount for each meal! It came with the herbs and spices too…. I did have to provide oils and butter, milk, soy sauce and the white wine, but all staples I have an abundance of!
The first meal we made was the Chicken Soba Noodle Soup. They forgot to send the chili, fortunately there’s a jar of chili in the fridge so I used a little of that. We couldn’t get through the serves, so there was lunch for us for Wednesday!! :) It was a well scripted recipe, and I loved it… though I did add a touch extra tamari to mine, but I’m a salt fiend with a cold, so that can be forgiven!

Next up was the sausages… with a surprising red onion and thyme gravy that was really tasty!
These guys were rather gourmet. Gluten free and sourced from Sydney.
It’s been awhile since I cooked with fresh thyme (I used the Gourmet Garden tubes a lot instead) so I was amazed at how wonderful it smelt.
The gravy was a mix of red onion, oil, thyme and white wine…. which I put a little too much in! ;)

The third meal in our three day box was a vegetarian paella. Again, not something I’ve cooked before, but had eaten a few times (always with seafood though!). This recipe was vegan, too, I can keep that in mind!
Super fresh ingredients, this one was VERY easy to make :) And delish!

So, I’d totally order this box again at full price once I have a job. I probably wouldn’t get the five day, just because I’m a bit too sporadic in my cooking for that, and like a little more flexibility. But to come home from work three weeknights, have all the ingredients there waiting for you, but still getting to prepare something with fresh Aussie ingredients? I’d say that’s worth the usual price of $64 (three meals for two people.) I understand that if you put the effort and time in, you could get the ingredients for less (though this cost breakdown on the site suggests otherwise), but not really if you want a different meal every night for just two people without wastage and too many repeated meals (only so many nights a week you can eat the same meal).
So, do you want to try HelloFresh? With a $35 discount on your first box? (yep, you can cancel anytime!!)
