We headed to Canberra for Xmas this year, to help people move house and to be with Bruce’s family. There are two vegans and a vegetarian in the household, so the menu for Christmas lunch was an array of delicious salads, some chicken and feta for us meat eaters, and fruit salad and pavlova for dessert. A deliciously healthy and filling meal that made for awesome leftovers!!!
Potato Salad (vegan)
Crispy Noodle Salad (vegan)
Garden Salad with Olives (vegan)
Vegan “Sausage” Roll. WAY better than the usual grey meat.
Chicken. I had to shred these BBQ chooks because noone else in the kitchen would touch them. I really don’t like stuffing or that ewie chicken jelly.
Tasty tasty salty feta.
Fruit salad. Yummy Yummy.
That evening, those aged over 13 played cards against humanity…. interesting explaining to your bf’s son what “bukakke” is… But a super fun game!
A delicious Xmas. I’ve always had a salad based Xmas lunch – it’s the Irwin side of the family way – so really enjoyed this!
Popped out for lunch today, and ended up in the main street of Belmont…
How cheap are these burgers? I got the “plain” beef burger for $5.50 (below) and Bruce got the “Malibu” gourmet burger with a home made chicken schnitzel for $10. Standard salad toppings were a given on both and the meats were awesome :)
Went for a late lunch /slash afternoon tea with the family for my birthday. Cupcakes and babycinos for the kids, cake and coffee for my Mum and sister, and meals for B and I because I couldn’t face cake, and hadn’t had lunch…
My awesome chicken burger – $18
The insides – chicken, tomato, cheese, lettuce, aioli, avocado
Bruce’s eggs benedict and slushy

How do you get the profile pic you want for the Newspaper feature to “launch” your local start-up? Apparently, you spend the afternoon wandering around the CBD of Newcastle, trying to get the right angles in front of buildings that are Newcastle.
So, Rish plied me with coffee and this DELICIOUS brushetta (with olives, goats cheese, mushrooms, chorizo and quinoa) and we hit the streets. Seriously, the lunch was amazing (from the Goldbergs special’s board) and Rish was so jealous that he didn’t buy it for himself!
It’d been so long since I’d been to the Civic Park / Newcastle Library precinct that I didn’t realise that they’d FINALLY finished the street between the two. This stark, grey, concrete area goes well with the Stasi-esque architecture of the library….
We had AMAZING weather that day! I got a little bit of sun, but was fortunately not sunburned.
Outside the old Post Office is where we got the final shot …. actually one of our first!
What would you say is the most “Newcastle” place you know? Nobby’s? The ocean baths? Fanny’s?
Disclaimer: Rish, and The Winterlake House may look familiar for long term readers ;) He and Camillo are friends of mine, and I helped them out with some photos the other day in exchange for a full belly, parking, petrol and tonnes of coffee. I wasn’t asked to make this post, it’s just because the food was so awesome that I can’t NOT write about the day!
Caught up for Brunch with my Mum the other week, and I have to say I love places that do an all day breakfast menu. This meant I could get these wonderful fritters after midday when Mum was ready for a wrap :)
Corn fritters with roasted tomato, guacamole and sour cream, $13
Turkey, cranberry and avo wrap with nummy chips, $13.
Top that off with some really yum coffees. :D
