Looking up
Barely a sniffle these past few days, aside from battling with a red curry last night :) Went with friends for dinner and then to see Gomorrah at Dendy. I can’t believe I’ve not been to Dendy in the Canberra Centre until now – the seats are so comfy! And wide! :)
The movie was hard to follow – I kept getting characters mixed up – perhaps if I’d known a little bit of the political/social background it would have been easier. One of the risks of watching something that was loved at Cannes :)
Aside from that, beena pretty cruisy weekend :) Very pleased with the lack of sniffles, but I think I spoke too soon last night before going to Cocoa Black and ordering cake and mousse when I declared that I could eat chocolate without troubles once more. Will have to keep it down to only a little at a time, I think. I had a chocolate truffle the other day, and was fine with that, but too much doesn’t seem to be good!
About to hit the gym, head home, sleep, and wake up tomorrow to know that Rish has probably already landed in Sydney! :)
In Bruges
In a whining-to-Rish moment on Saturday night of “do we have any movies to watch on the computer”, he replied “Actually we do. In Bruges.”
Great, I say, anything to entertain me on a Saturday evening. So, accompanied by Rish, minestrone, wine and later yummy dessert, we set about watching it.
And I set about giggling for the two hours it runs for. Yes, I was laughing at people dying or getting injured, and insulting a town and going a little mad (and midgets)… but it was certainly my kind of humour. Don’t read the wikipedia link before you see it.
Just see it, perhaps with wine in hand. And enjoy.
A win, nonetheless
It’s great to win movie tickets, this week I got tickets to Choke and the Mirrors… but neither of them is still showing in the Canberra cinemas that the vouchers would be valid for! Needed to be quicker on that one.
Instead, we will pay (well use the gift vouchers my mother keeps sending us) to go see the new Bond movie. Something to do on a cold (I think it’s meant to top at 15! a week out from summer!) drizzly day. It’ll probably be quite busy. Hope we get reasonable seats!
Less than 24 hours
So in 21 hours I should be boarding the plane.
Yes, a little more than excited *heh*
(Wishing I was in Boon, though…)
I was just sitting down with Mum, going through the photos from her European trips. I think it was making her a little sad, thinking that sha has travelled so little since she’s been married. i remember as a kid, we had three family holidays. One was in year one, to Victoria to visit my Grandfather down there, then year three to the Gold Coast, then again up to Brissie and the Gold Coast in year 11. Mum hasn’t really gotten away an more than that in that time, and since then has had a couple of Syndey and Melbourne long weekends, but not much at all. So, being me, I’m trying to psych her into planning a 2010 trip to Europe, a 30th anniversary of the trip we were just looking at. With new, unfading photos. (and a few more kilos – she was so skinny back then!)
I’m packed, except my toiletries. I have a new bigger memory card for my camera – which i need to charge tonight so I can take dorky photos of my air plane meals and other ccrap. Postcards look so much better than what I can take, so i’ll send you them instead :p
What else to do? Not really sure… sort out what i’d like to watch on the flight – there’s a huge selection :) My plan is to watch movies til Bangkok, then sleep in the BKK to Dubai leg a bit more (at least a few hours!) We’ll see how I go. I got a text message from Rish, arrived safely and very grateful for his sleeping pills – I want!
Will leave here at aout midday to head to the airport – aim is to get a good night’s sleep :) And to remember everything I need! *bounce*
Marry me in Vegas
Over the long-weekend, Rish and I took some time for ourselves and went to see 21 (using the free pass I won courtesy of RHP!)
I enjoyed it :) I tend to enjoy most movies that I go to, at least on some level. But this one I walked out of feeling good :) I always wonder how much of a “based on truth” movie is actually true, but I think that if you’re talking Vegas, it could be reasonably far-fetched and still be slightly believable.
Who wants to marry me in Vegas?
Cabin Fever
I love Muppet Treasure Island. I think I had it on video though, so it’s probably dead, and I haven’t seen it for years….
But, yes, going a little stir-crazy at home. Past the point of appreciating that I can relax and sleep in and take care of myself and starting to miss people-contact too much. That’s why I went to Japanese last night, loved being there, even though it was assaulting my vocal tract at every syllable.
I get to meet a friend for lunch though today – she’s down for an audiology conference (defected from speech path after finishing the degree!) So at least that means venturing out of the house for a little bit… even to scurry back after :) I reckon they probably get some good freebies at their conferences, there so much more money in hearing than speech!
…that song is hilarious :) *dissolves into giggles*
Splatter – the musical
So we went to see Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street last night. It was that, or Juno, but we figured we could watch that down the tack on dvd… theory is, that a serial killer flick with sining would be much better on the big screen. And given how dark everything was, I don[‘t think I would have been able to see it that well on the computer monitor!
Yet again though, I’m glad I didn’t have to pay full price to see it. After, yes again, having issues with the gift card Mum gave me (it was replaced last timer we went) and me getting flustered over that, it was only $8/ticket (anyone know if they’re also looking at closing Greater Union at Manuka? Just because tickets were $8 in Civic before that closed recently…)
Excessive amounts of blood splatter (how many slashes and stabs should it take for the blood to stop spurting out of a neck??) and irritating parts to the story (I’m sure there would be more to it in the book…) but yeah. It was a nice way to spend the evening, although hunger took a bit to set in after it *blech*
Today’s looking like a quiet morning, maybe odd jobs in the afternoon, and catching up with friends and/or dancing tonight. I will be needing caffine though, as for some reason we stayed up waay too late watching the Sixth season of Scrubs, and was left banging our heads against the walls at the predictable and cringe-worthy end to the season. But yes, when we get our hands on it, we’ll watch season 7.
