The past few weeks have flown.

There’s only 5 more days of work left.

Time enough to wrap up loose ends, pack up my boxes.

Sign all those notes and letters. File them away.

Hugs to be had. Farewells to be said.

And only a few more Lava coffees!

Oh, Hi Canberra winter.

Yes, temperature of minus 6.5. APPARENT TEMP -9.7. And still minus two when I left for the gym at six am.

A frost.

Obstacles on the walk to work at 8:30 in the morning.

And these clothes are clearly not substantial enough. Cute, but failing to warm me.
(I should add that only HALF the electric blanket gave up. Much snuggling required.)

Newcastle doesn’t really have winter. Well it does, but I think it lasted for about 3 days with a frost. I remember freezing in our little demountable classrooms (don’t NSW school suck when it comes to housing kids in these things??) in Winter, and boiling in them in Summer. But I know what cold is now that I’m in Canberra!

Cold is walking up the hill to work at minus-something-or-other. It’s the fog not lifting until 2pm, for a glimmer of sun before it sets at 4:30! It’s the crunch of frosts under your feet. It’s looking at the BOM online repeatedly, and celebrating at lunchtime that it’s cracked zero degree.
I love winter in Canberra. I might complain, but I love it.
The cold air makes me smile.
