Role of Muslim Charities during Covid-19

Islamic charities were quite active during pandemic helping communities to provide food, clean water, shelter and medical aid to poor and marginalized people without looking into their creed, color, race and religion. The basic problem is to find enough support to assist with basic needs and to help maintain an adequate level of hygiene. Many of these organizations are totally relying on Zakat and donations provided by people across the globe. Islamic charities mainly focus on providing food, clean water and sanitation to those who need it the most. Other basic services are also provided such as immunizations, health care, and food assistance. It is hoped that with adequate resources and support, these organizations will be able to better serve their clients.

There are a variety of approaches used in the working of the various pandemic relief organizations. Each organization has its own methods of working and ensuring that basic needs are met. Most organizations have a field staff that is fully trained in basic first aid and disease surveillance. They are able to provide direct medical care to patients that cannot get to a hospital due to lack of transportation. Some have established contacts with local families in order to extend medical care and attention when it is not possible for local staff to do so.

A number of non-profitable organizations approach those who have lost their loved ones to the pandemic through the distribution of limited resources. Clothing, hygiene materials, and toys are the usual items distributed. However, some contact organizations focus on the provision of burial materials, burial items, cremation services, and other related support services. Food supplies are often a major concern due to restrictions on importing or exporting food products due to the pandemic. Many of these limited resources are obtained through blood drives, which have been effective in meeting limited needs in the pandemic response area.

Charities can also play a key role in monitoring the pandemic and conducting fundraising activities to assist with the overall cost of handling the outbreak. There are several forms of fundraising that have been successful in the past. The key is to determine which methods generate the most interest and which can be implemented most effectively. Charities can partner with community groups to conduct mass supplies of items such as clean water, hygiene materials, and other basic supplies at local markets to help recover.

Other fundraising ideas focus on things like selling reusable items such as cleaning products and disposable diapers. Carpet cleaning has proved to be very popular during previous pandemics. These services can be arranged in homes or offices. A carpenter can set up shop and work from home while an employee cleans homes. Other companies have used the profit gained from selling reusable goods as an opportunity to build infrastructure projects in the areas affected by the pandemic. These jobs can be supervised or performed by a team of workers.

Other ideas for charities working to help in dealing with the pandemic include using basic tools like razors, nail clippers, and disinfectants to clear out the nail beds in bathrooms and kitchens where people tend to get infected. Disposable diapers can be sterilized by spraying them with chlorine and then rinsing with water. Shampoos that kill bacteria can also be applied to hair and to the nails. A change in laundry detergents that eliminate biological growths can prevent spreading of the disease further. Using these simple household items, which are readily available, can make a big difference to a home or an office.

Charities working to help in the pandemic should have a long-term plan for addressing problems. It should include monitoring the situation to determine what has changed and what hasn’t. The best way is to assess the scope of the problem correctly and then devise a strategy that will address the needs of the greatest number of people in the shortest period of time. Prevention is always better than cure. Charities that are working to help in combating the disease should focus on basic hygiene.

Hand washing should be a priority. Many people have been known to contract infections through poor hand washing practices. By following proper hand washing practices, a high percentage of the spread of the disease is prevented. Teachers and school children are also at a special risk of contracting the disease through poor hand washing practices. Charities working to help in combating the pandemic should put in place a plan for effective communication so that members are aware of the basic flu prevention methods and are encouraged to practice them.
