If you’re making a new car purchase in 2021, then the chances are good that it’s going to be an electric vehicle. There’s no shortage of competition in the modern EV market, with new vehicles being introduced constantly. Let’s take a look at five options that stand apart from the rest of the field.

Jaguar i-Pace

The i-Pace scooped the European Car of the Year award in 2019, and it remains an excellent option at the sixty-odd-grand price point, beating out stiff competition from Tesla, Audi and Mercedes. It was heralded at release as the cutting edge of electric locomotion, and it still is.

Volkswagen ID.3

The ID.3, from Volkswagen, is a more affordable way to get hold of many of the same benefits without shelling out quite so much. This is set to serve as the basis for future offerings from the company, and it’s a little bit on the conservative side, design-wise. That said, it offers an exceptional, responsive drive, and a spacious interior.

Peugeot e-2008 SUV

If you’re in the market for an electric SUV, then this compact offering from Peugeot is sure to appeal. It lacks the range and speed of many of its immediate rivals, but if you’re only driving locally, that probably won’t be a significant issue. The ride is comfortable, smooth and quiet, and the interior is a joy to inhabit. As such, it ticks more than a few boxes. Peugeot electric cars are available from reputable vendors, offline and online.

Renault Zoe

For those looking for something small and affordable, this supermini from Renault has a great deal to offer. It’s a pleasure to drive, and comes equipped with a wide variety of quality-of-life features. The cabin is deceptively roomy, and thus it’s a great choice if you’re spending a lot of time transporting items and people from one place to another. It sits somewhere between the affordability of the bottom end of the market and the luxury of something like a BMW or Jaguar. It’s a happy medium that’ll appeal to a wide variety of motorists.

Vauxhall Mokka-e

For those looking for a city-friendly EV, there are a great many to choose from. Vehicles in this category don’t necessarily need long range: if they’re easy to drive and to park, and they offer impressive fuel efficiency, then they’re fit for the purposes of many motorists. The Mokka-e from Vauxhall is a worthwhile example from this particular class of electric vehicles. It offers a nice balance between looks and speed, and most of the important features come as standard. While it lacks speed and range compared to many of its rivals, it’s still worth considering
