We headed to Canberra for Xmas this year, to help people move house and to be with Bruce’s family. There are two vegans and a vegetarian in the household, so the menu for Christmas lunch was an array of delicious salads, some chicken and feta for us meat eaters, and fruit salad and pavlova for dessert. A deliciously healthy and filling meal that made for awesome leftovers!!!
Potato Salad (vegan)
Crispy Noodle Salad (vegan)
Garden Salad with Olives (vegan)
Vegan “Sausage” Roll. WAY better than the usual grey meat.
Chicken. I had to shred these BBQ chooks because noone else in the kitchen would touch them. I really don’t like stuffing or that ewie chicken jelly.
Tasty tasty salty feta.
Fruit salad. Yummy Yummy.
That evening, those aged over 13 played cards against humanity…. interesting explaining to your bf’s son what “bukakke” is… But a super fun game!
A delicious Xmas. I’ve always had a salad based Xmas lunch – it’s the Irwin side of the family way – so really enjoyed this!
Om nom nom.
Oh and I got Diet Coke for xmas! Twice!
EXCUSE THE ALL CAPS, but it’s a very exciting time here!
I’ve out up my tree, wanna see?
Old and new decorations
The Flying Spaghetti Monster.
Secret santa gifties
My VERY OWN Peppa Pig advent calendar.
Ez and Li Elves
And the gift of caffeine.
Bring on Xmas!
There’s so many family activities being put on by Lake Macquarie council and the local business chambers! Check some of them out!
The Lake Macquarie International Children’s Games opening ceremony will kick off at 5pm Sunday 7 December in Speers Point Park, followed by the Newcastle Permanent Carols by Candlelight from 8pm, as they combine for one big night of entertainment. Fireworks will be at 9:30pm.
This is a free event. If you get there early to secure a spot, you will also be able to enjoy free amusement rides for the kids from 3pm. Council is running shuttle buses from Warners Bay because there is so little parking in the park area.
Link for more information on the carols and Children’s Games.
There are also local carols at parks around the Lake as well as local primary schools. Some of the larger ones will be at Toronto, Swansea, Valentine and Morriset. Look for notices at your local shops!
Markets are all the rage, and there will be night markets at Speers Point Park on Tuesday Dec 9 (See and share the FB event) and twilight markets at Wangi on Friday Dec 5.
At the Speers Point markets there will be Indigenous food tasting from 3-5pm followed by local stallholders and entertainment at 5pm.
On Friday Wangi’s main street will close for the markets and there will be craft activities for the kids (and kids at heart!)
Speaking of Craft, Lake Macquarie Art Gallery in Booragul will be holding Crafternoons on Dec 13 and 20 for kids over 8. Bookings essential (ph 4965 8260)
There are six fun activities for children this festive season at Lake Mac libraries. From Jingle Bells storytimes for young children to designing your own Christmas shirt! Check out this link. Bookings essential!
