Went back to Posture and Flexibility class last night - I’m glad it was on because last night I really wasn’t up to doing anythign silly like running 5k. No, I did that this morning. Both went well - I got some good hip flexor stretching going once I got my calf muscles out of the picture (and had a chair for balance!) and this morning I didn’t stop to walk at any point. not even going up to the second bridge! Admittedly, I think my quads left me on the final dash to the end … but that’s okay :)

Got some cheap steaks and salad for dinner from the Civic pub after gym last night. Good value for $6.50. Good company too, nice to catch up with people after Christmas break.

And now I need to take my contact lenses out - I think I’ve been awake too long!

Improve my running: This includes doing more of it! Rish has changed my sticker reward chart (where he takes me out to dinner when I each a goal of some type) to taking me out to dinner each time I take a minute off my 5k run time. So I’m going to have to work hard this year! Interval runs on the treadmill, actually doing my Pump classes etc etc. There are many little things tied up in this - one thing leading to another, so aiming towards the time goals of running will help me to motivate myself for other things (like getting my food back on track!)

No more chocolate from the chocolate jar at work: doesn’t mean I’m giving up on chocolate, I need it. I just need to stop having it at work!

Continue learning Japanese: The plan is to do a course starting he end of February through ANU, but if it doesn’t run, I’ll get myself re-subscribed to podcasts and continue, but a little more independently. (anyone know of good Japanese learning websites? JapanesePod101 is one of the ones I’m thinking of using)

Pick up a subject towards a Masters by coursework: It won’t happen until second semester, but that will give me time to investigate what the best options for me are. I know the developmental disability masters would be useful for my current job, at least, but finding out what else is out there, such as in education or health subjects would be good.

Travel: I have a trip to Melbourne for a meeting the last weekend of January, I’m thinking of extending it so I have time to “be” in Melbourne for a couple of days, but I’m still umm-ing and ahh-ing about it… have til Friday to decide. I also want to visit Brisbane at some time… and try for a longer (well, longer than a weekend) break to somewhere… it’s looking like Queenstown, New Zealand for a snow holiday in August at this point. (Wouldn’t mind a warm trip in winter too! Anyone want to go to Queensland with me?)

I’m sure there’s plenty more that will come to me as I go along… And as I tick some off and change them around!

Went to the Brewery to see PNAU last night to bring in new year. Good night - Bumblebeez and Snobscrilla were the supports, both of which I was thinking “I think I’ve heard of them” and knew a few songs of.

PNAU was fun - dancing strawberries and all that… hot and sweaty dancing with guys who I’m sure would have fit in at Cube - shirts off and constantly hoisting one-another onto their shoulders. Hehe.

Fireworks - we saw the 9pm ones from the wharf, the midnight ones were going on through PNAU.

Sweetener? Two free t-shirts! At the end they were throwing things out into the crowd. One went past me and hit the ground, s I picked it up - a canvas bag with pnau printed on it. “I thin there’s a shirt in in” and Rish caught another one :) his, of course, fit him, while mine was too small and I passed it on to a friend later. Shame :p

As soon as they finished, we ditched town, headed back to the lack to a friend’s place. Drank wine, played the Spicks and Specks game which I was rocking at. :) Fun times. Love my school friends!

Happy New Year! :D Bring on 2009! (I think it’s going to be a good year!)

Yet again I think this year has been the quickest one yet… but then I might just be getting old :P

Have been having a wonderful time up in Newcastle- weather has been brilliant, and finally made it to the beach yesterday. Unfortunately, I got sunburnt beforehand at a cafe :( But it wouldn’t be summer without a little sunburn…

My main resolution for next year would be to not get sick as much! Not quite sure how to achieve that one - besides stopping working with children. There’s always the “lose weight/get fitter” goals - I saw another goal tracker site - “Goal for it” (ahh gotta love a pun!) to add to the list of web based ways to keep myself on track. I like that you can make them public or private… sometimes public goals can keep you on track better!

They even have kids chore charts which I can see being useful for kids that I work with! (I’m always encouraging timetables!)

What are your resolutions for 09?

Two jobs for tomorrow - clean my desk, and empty the fridges at work.. Beyond that, I may get some report writing done, or might distract myself with other things - like making boardmaker visuals and funner things like that!
Leaving for Newie Xmas morning. Hope to hit it about midday, in time for the eating.

Okay, whose idea was it for me to work next week? O well, save those leave days for another time, get some more assessments done (we only know they need to be done) and get other things finished off that are hard to do this week, with the parties and the fire alarms.

I now know why Health isn’t allowed to have toasters any more in their staff kitchens. This morning someone burnt toast and the fire brigade came… yesterday it was a smoking plastic container in a microwave. I’m told it wasn’t Tupperware…

So, two work parties today, one more Friday… but it’s all coming at a good time, with more changes coming up at work, allowing us to “debrief” many times over. Still trying to consider what I want to do. I have a preference, and should probably go with that, but am not completely against going the other way… all still a long way away so no point getting too caught up in it…

Finally upgraded to wordpress 2.7 and am oohing and ahhing at the dashboard. Love it.

The Christmas run started on December 6 with our anniversary dinner, and continues non-stop now until… we collapse in front of the tv for a brief respite on Boxing day for the cricket… then pick up again for birthdays and new year (PNAU at the Brewery if you’re in Newie)…

There was the AGM and dinner last night where I try to get everyone excited and involved in the local speech pathology australia branch… with wine. That was successful :) Today was the SP discipline chrissy lunch - I came home with fiddlesticks which i THINK are a little like pickup sticks.

First was at Lemongrss Thai - always a favourite and super reliable. Today was at Pialligo Winery. Nice wine… but food was overpriced and .. well not that great. My “risotto” was just rice mixed with the specified ingredients. Nice Gelato, but again just over priced…

So two down.. 3 or so to go in Canberra. 4 if the santa pub crawl counts. more if every other catch up with friends does too.

Thankfully I still have my gym membership!

And on the health front - no glandular picked up on blood tests, Rish is doing better… I have a sore throat, but if I ignore it, it will go away.

I’m like Typhoid Mary or something. First I infect our PC with a virus (granted it had a million year old virus checker on it and that was it) by downloading unchecked software, but now I think I’ve infected Rish with something. HIS dr is thinking Glandular Fever, and since I haven’t been retested since my first bad dose of tonsils in May, it could well be that I’ve been carrying that around the whole time. Dammit. Hopefully it’ll at least mean that I should be done with it.

“The virus is making me want to kiss you”

We’ll see hey?

(and the PC virus is the reason for my scarcity online)

Instead, we will pay (well use the gift vouchers my mother keeps sending us) to go see the new Bond movie. Something to do on a cold (I think it’s meant to top at 15! a week out from summer!) drizzly day. It’ll probably be quite busy. Hope we get reasonable seats!

It’s definately cherry season… you just have to know where to buy them!

A local guy was selling them - 2 kilos for $8 at the Kingston Old Bus Depot Markets yesterday… so Mum (who was down for the weekend) split a box with me. I just might have to go back next Sunday for another box full. Other than that, I don’t think I was exactly inspired at the markets… a few cute bags but I’m scared I’d destroy them in an instant!

On shopping, I’m also after a pair of bown summer sandals to replace my current pair that did last summer and did Greece. Before they fall apart. But again, not inspired. And the ones I did like were in “old lady sizes” as my mother put it - a C fitting that slips off my skinny foot. Yes, I have somethign skinny. :p When I was a kid, I remember wearing A fittings in the Clarke’s school shoes. Given I used to also walk on my toes all the time, it’s no wonder I was falling down a lot. Just don’t know my excuse now…

So I’m sticking to safer pursuits. Like Scrabble. :)

Focus: pecs and shoulders!

It’s interesting to work through why you might be able to get more stretch on one side than another… I was able to get a better pec strectch on my left side today… and this seemed to be because of my weaker and less tight left arm muscles. Not that I have awesome right guns *giggles* but they do work more!

Tonight’s class was exactly what I needed after sitting all day listening to other presentations. I learned some things today … about handwriting to start with and all the body functions that work towards good handwriting, as well as the benefits of hippotherapy.

But my take home message for me today was that I need to do more data collection. To “prove” what I “know” works. I can see I think how I might incorporate that into a group on Friday. Insprired, and tired.

:)
