uni

Only procrastinated getting started on uni things for a couple of days…. just doing my Syntax readings now, thinking that I should have memories of a lot of this (and I do) but seriously there are things that I draw a complete blank on. Like clitics? Or postpositions (which makes sense but I didn’t realise that had their own name. Mind. Blown! :p

Now to procrastinate the Second language acquisition reading. That textbook (the green one in the last post) is huge!

*scared*

Where do I start?

I’m still looking for a job. Part time, preferably. For my sanity.

I re-enrolled in uni. Master of Applied Linguistics.

spocksyntax

Which means relearning Syntax. And how to write essays.

I still live with my parents, and my sister and her kids.

Which I’m grateful for after we nearly lost her last year.

I have a boyfriend. It’s intense and emotional and wonderful.

I’m still in twice weekly therapy.

I’m learning about me.

I’m getting there.

Yeah! Distinction!

Yeah! This, of course, will help me when trying to sell myself for private work with a literacy focus. Look! Even a UNI said I can do stuff to do with literacy and learning difficulties!

One more subject to go in the master’s degree. Next semester.

I can do it!

UC Coffee
Coffee at UC to keep the uni brain ticking. All the wooden sticks and stevia. How hip.

On Uni

March 20, 2011 · 3 comments

I like that this subject is challenging my beliefs about literacy and its instruction.

I like hearing and reading the viewpoints of others, taking it in, resorting my own ideas, and then trying to get them out on paper.

I like feeling “authorised” to delve further into the assessment side of it than usual with a couple of my students. Being able to spend more time, and justify it. To be able to use my learning to shape what approaches I take at work, to influence my own and others’ practice.

I like that the others in the course are happy to share resources. The beauty of post-grad study, we’re in it for our own development, not to “beat” the other students. I do have memories from undergrad speech when people would hide short term loan items so only they could use them, or check out all the books on dysphagia from the library two weeks before the assignment was due. Thankfully I could search out the info I needed in other ways. But it just made it harder.

In the real world people help each other. And learn from each other. I like this real world (and like doing online via moodle!)

Bought noms for the Steamboat tonight. Including baby octopus and fish balls.

And now am about to:
Colour my hair. Purple.
The more reading.

Ahh student life.

Everyone loves a cheap feed, hey? Especially when they’ve been drinking and celebrating Rish submitting his thesis! Woo! Grabbed a table on Friday night at Shanghai Dumpling Cafe under Uni Lodge for a dinner that worked out at 10.70/head.

Shanghai Dumpling House, Acton

I’m not really sure what we ordered, a bunch of noodles and dumplings, 10 dishes for the 10 of us, including some vegetarian ones.

I was vastly too sober and tired to enjoy myself as much as the others, as I was driving, but there was much laughter and stress release.

tequila

And shots later that night at King O’Malley’s.

Parkers Pretzels

I rediscovered Parker’s Pretzels in the uni vending machine. Salty noms with much less fat than chips.

Sushi

Fish is brain food, hey?
